Sir, my hat is off to you. Good to see a quote from some one that has obviously been down the path. I just grin when drivers walk by my truck and see that big-o Fatboy mounted going through an in-line watt meter transmitting through full-length Preditors standing 13 ft 9 inches in the air, throwing 600-plus out. I just got out AND down in the Ft. Worth area. (Yes, antennas do bank on a few things but homemade flat plate across mirror brackets keep it in place.)
powerful CB?

Nothing wrong with a cobra 29. Receives really well for sure. But for $200 get yourself something that will get out there a little more. Like a General Lee. One of the best radios out there for the money imo. For $300 total I've got my general on low power with a 2 watt DK into a polymar 350 kicker. Gets out there a good 10 -15 even 20 miles loud and proud. The main thing is nothing is being "pushed" to it's limits this way and the sound quality reflects this. I get a lot of comments on how crystal clear this set up is. There's certainly a lot more out there power wise but this is way more than enough for most people and it's not distorting all over the place or sounding like ####. The ranger SRA 198 mic is great too and comes stock with the general.
Also the general by it self does pretty well swinging around 40-50 watts on hi. No need for kicker unless you want a little more in the way of power. I just don't get why people want to push their radios past their limits and blast out all that distortion and shorten their lifespan greatly. Mine will last forever this way and sounds awesome.mike5511 Thanks this. -
I haven't bought a radio in 8 years. Where can I find either a good cb shop nowadays or a good online retailer. I like your setup and wouldn't mind going that route. You paid $300 for both the radio and amp?

If you are gonna turn a twin final radio down, like the Gen Lee, a good radio indeed, to run with a amp, just save a few bucks and drive it with a Cobra 29. 2 watts is 2 watts no matter what radio you have. And yes I can hook you up with a 29 and a amp I believe.

The guy hearing you on the other end will not be able to tell the difference.........!

This is true and the 29 is a good radio. Probably receives a little better too. Won't get the quality mic tho.
I had my general lee bare back before getting the amp. Also, it's not that high of a priced radio and I can still run the radio without the amp and get out better than the 29 will. For what I have in it, I'm happy with the setup. I think it may swing higher than the 29 and that's really where this amp does well. Low DK with a good swing. -
I'd rather have the Gen Lee as well, but I've got a Cobra 25 and my brother has a 29 that both get accused of being a "big radio" all the time. You can get more swing out of the Gen Lee for sure, but you can do more than a adequate job with a 29 or 25 as well, especially with an amp. (My 25 has had the final and driver changed as well.)
