Aaawwww .......... at least mine was low emissions .....................

I think it's absolutely retarded that a glider kit built in or imported to Canada must meet the emissions regs applicable to the model year of the chassis. So, if I ordered a 2015 Pete 389 glider, it now has to have a EPA 2010 or better engine. What if I ordered that glider to replace, say, a wrecked 2002 379 with a DDEC IV Detroit, and although the frame, cab, etc were trashed, my entire powertrain was perfectly serviceable? These gliders have existed for EXACTLY that purpose for a LONG time. I can tell you EXACTLY why they made this rule up here though... Walmart in Canada announced they were buying 1000 Freightliner Argosy gliders with DDEC IV Detroits to pull their experimental 60 foot trailers.
Now, not only can you not take advantage of the very reason gliders exist, you can't even import one from the US that was built 5 years ago. -
Umm, could someone define "glider" for me please? Just curious....

New truck. Old engine. "glider" is what its called because when it leaves the factory it isn't under it's own power. Originally designed for new trucks that were in wrecks where the drivetrain was all still good but the rest of the truck was a write off. Now a days, they are desirable because new trucks with new engines that have all the emission controls on them are generally less reliable than the engines of yesterday.25(2)+2 and Speedloader Thank this.

Gotcha, a little googling sort of explained it but that .makes a lot more sense, thanks.

Or ....... Russ, you payin' attention ? .......... [h=2]Definition of glider in English:[/h] [h=3]noun[/h]1A light aircraft that is designed to fly for long periods without using an engine.
But, yeah, a chassis for a wreck applies here ....... been there, done it ......... AND flying in 'gliders' are fun too ........ been there ( a passenger ) and done it as well ....... highly recommended ......
