Fmcsa in 2015

    I didn't hack mine but once I logged in and ran through a whole night of work, 12 hours worth, and the logs never changed from line 1. Figured it would change it the next day. Logged in the next night and it showed me as line 1 the whole night previously. They definitely aren't perfect and can definitely have problems

    Once again, Insults and eliteist attitude. I never once said I knew everything, I even recall saying I still had tons to learn and even sought out the older more experienced drivers to learn from. Good job on proving my point again...

    I don't recall asking for sympathy from you, or anyone else, Cowpie. I will adapt, as I always have when stupid regulations and changes that are applauded and welcomed by some come down the pike, as they have for years. I am not oblivious to others out here, so I see the many guys that run e-logs getting trapped by them, whether by their own lack of planning or by the flawed system. It doesn't happen to you? Bully for you! You have set yourself up with a primo gig, then and I'm happy for you. Me, I don't have to worry about the nanny for a couple more years, so it won't be any more trouble for me than it is, now, at least for that long, at which point, I will make necessary changes, which will most likely be a change in the type of freight I haul, but I have been making some pre-emptive plans. Forgive me for not remembering if you mentioned it, but what type of freight do you haul? We go to a lot of cold storage and distribution centers and they go nowhere near out of their way to accommodate drivers, particularly from outside carriers.

    I dunno, I guess when you get down to brass tacks, I don't like change. I particularly don't like unnecessary change that does no one any good with the changes being made by those who have no clue what they're doing and no idea what this job entails. And, to a degree, I guess it bothers me when people that do know what it is to be out here cheer them on.

    Oh, and wagon wheel makers? My guess is that today's wagon wheel makers make a pretty good living, since it's a specialized niche so they can charge what they want. ;)

    I'd say one other problem I have with elogs is hard braking. I haven't had a critical event for hard breaking in almost a year and I got one the other night because our trailer brakes lock up on the rain when we're empty. Also the roll stability events suck too lol. I've only gotten 2 in the year I've been hauling fuel.

    Had a hard brake yesterday when a big truck pulled out in front of me just off I65 in Indiana. They can be fairly sensitive thats for sure.

    That's why Elog sucks and fmcsa doesn't see the weakness of having it. I would team with drivers, dump elogs into one large pile and make a bonfire of burned elogs and send a pic to the government and fmcsa.

    Yeah in my opinion elogs will not make anyone safer. Just makes it easier for dot to see when you drove over your hours

    the biggest problem with elogs is that some companies have fine tuned it down to minutes as far as how much time one can take off, or be on line 4 or even on their 1/2 break. and if you go over this time then the company threatens to write the driver up. (this is only pushing the driver and not making it safer). and i would say to anyone if you have proof that you have been written up for taking too long to get fuel, or spending more than 1/2 hour off or more than 10 hours off take it to a dot officer. (companies cannot dictate how long one takes or spends on line 4 or off duty, they can suggest, threaten that is about it but to write someone up or fire over can you say lawsuit?)

    The experienced drivers may have fried all of our brains with the diesel fumes from mechanical motors, but we still survived the years when fuel was cheap enough to run around the clock. We didn't need babysitters then and sure don't now for what some drivers call a hard day. The guys falling asleep at the wheel are the ones laying up all night playing xbox instead of sleeping. Elogs will make a safe driver unsafe trying to make a living running hours that are irregular and not comfortable with. All the guys thinking elogs is greatest thing since sliced bread, it's not about the elogs it's about the changes trucking has/is seeing with no regard to truckers health, profits, or families. Some quack comes along and decides pink skirts with no panties keeps truckers alert and circulation flowing properly guess what, there is gonna be a lot of pink skirt wearing pantyless truckers.
