Been reading forum threads for months and grateful for the information I gathered so far. Drove OTR for a few months in the mid 90's after a 4-year Army term. The OTR life was not a good fit for me with a new family, so I re-enlisted. Now, I'm in the process of retiring and looking hard at OTR as a 2nd career after I complete a refresher course. It seems a lot in the industry has changed in the last 18 years but, pay, not so much. That's okay, I feel there's good money to be made, and I'm willing to put in the time and work for it.

Yes, there's good money to be made if you get all the endorsements, TWIC, passport.
Can make over $60K with hazmat/tankers.

First, let me start with, Thank you for your service to our country, your a man among men, although trucking has green good to me, it has changed considerably and not for the better, if I could, I would find a different career, OTR is not what it use to be, if OTR is what you truly wish to do, I wish you all the best, you can make descent money out here, even with the little experience you have, you won't find it at CR ENGLAND, OR SWIFT, and many other starter companies, do some research on what companies hirer beginner drivers, and what they pay, if your not afraid to get dirty? Flatbed, generally pays better, good luck

Thank you both for the welcome and advice. I am not running into this blindly thanks to TTR. OTR is at the top of my list, however I am exploring other career opportunities since I have a pretty versatile resume.I was dead set on getting into flatbed as a segway into OD/HH, but in the last few weeks, I've started looking into tanker ops. I've figured out that I can probably start out no less than mid-30's CPM with the right company. One of my overarching motivations to being OTR is the eventual possibility of being a successful O/O and running a business. And no, I do not see programs like CRE L/P as the best mechanism for me personally to get there. Thanks again.
