Question. As I am getting ready for Orientation in a few days I came across a list of stuff they say to bring on their website. Well needless to say the list is long and to be honest more money than I currently can afford especially seeing as I have yet to receive a paycheck and my current/last job I just quit didn't pay much. So is it actually required to have a stapler or all weather boots at orientation?. Although I know all weather boots would be convenient to have given that I need to exit the truck in a rain storm I can't just spend what little I have for convenience at this time. What do you think? There is a bunch of stuff on that list like 6 inch rulers and briefcase and a tape measurer. Let me know please.

I got almost everything on that check list but have not used anything but the essentials like clothes and hygeine stuff from that list. I am guessing it is all for when you go out on training but I am not sure if you need it all. I kinda doubt it. Orientation was a good experience so far, they feed you good food, the dinner vouchers are for a good little restaurant. They pretty much supply you with all you need during orientation. I am waiting for them to activate me now for training, I have a trainer waiting for me and everything is ready to go. I even met a team driver that lives close to me during orientation fingers crossed it all works out smoothly. Good luck with your new career.

they gave us a ruler at the safety class, and they said a $2 binder from walmart would work just as well as a briefcase, I don't really see a purpose for a stapler at this time since I will be training tomorrow fingers crossed.

Walmart has clipboard boxes where you can store your paperwork for a few bucks -- better than briefcase (you can carry it in to customers). You don't need while on the trainer's truck, but will want one eventually.

You will want at least a cheap pair of steel toed boots because some customers will require it (along with long sleeves and long pants). I bought a torturous $30 pair from walmart that I put on just long enough to walk to the customer from the truck (I eventually splurged on some Danners, but you don't need to overspend starting out). You'll also want a cheap pair of flip flops for showering.

You don't need a stapler -- your trainer probably has one, but so does every truck stop. You probably do want a few pens.

You'll need a tape measure eventually, but you shouldn't need one during training. I think Covenant said to get a 50' one, but a 10' one will do (you'll measure 10' from the back of the trailer to find the 40' kingpin to tandem setting).

You don't need a ruler -- you'll get one during orientation and you'll only use it during training. After that you'll be exclusively e-logs...

What list lol? I only brought the required paperwork. Honestly don't worry about a stapler, all weather boots, etc..
Do bring pens to write with though, and maybe folder. Tape measure as well...they sell those at the dollar store.doesn't need to be fancy.

Well I'm up here at orientation. Tons of paperwork. Do they send home people regularly?. it's as if we came all this way to fill out an application. Makes me nervous. Especially since I quit my full time job last week

Well... I've been in contact with another member on here who just went thru orientation. He told me they did send quite a few people home with his orientation class.

With my experience they tried to make sure everyone passed. The health coach definitely made sure we all passed our bp test. But your experience might differ from mine. Just relax and avoid the free coffee, sausage that they have for breakfast.

Hey dom, when you arrived at the hotel was there a health coach named Jenna that took your bp test? When I went to orientation the health coach took our bp test on sunday before the real test on Monday. This helped to see where we were at in regards to our bp numbers.

About half my orientation class dropped -- some from the drug test, & some from undisclosed accidents/criminal matters.

We started with about 20 people in orientation, and ended up with about 12 people after all was said and done. Some did not pass the Blood Pressure test, a couple for the drug test, and a couple were previously experienced drivers and they did not pass the backing tests (only for prior experience hires). I am now on my 4th day of training and it has been good so far. We made a 2200 mile drive to Georgia, which we delivered early this morning. Our next delivery is to Texas for about 1000 miles. The cool thing about Covenant is in orientation they said we will get paid .04 cents for every mile even on training all the way to Jan. 17th so that should add up to a good bonus check if we get a lot of miles. Maybe even a extra 1k if I am lucky. So far I am happy with the situation, my trainer seems like a good trainer even though he is a bit strict and likes to run hard, and he is a bit controlling about his truck. I can deal with it for a month and I should have my team driver lined up already as long as he does not change his mind. He lives close to my home town so that may work well with our 34 resets. I hope he will be ok I recently found out he is a sleepwalker, hopefully that won't happen when we are driving.
