It's 4 weeks in a nice hotel. No doubling up. I had a ton of fun. Still talk to the guys I went with. I wasn't thrilled either but it's 4 weeks out of a job that most people make a 30 something year career is a drop in the bucket.

Ah. Good deal. I was leaning towards one carrier, but they double up on rooms for training. They then say that you need to keep "your" room tidy, as you can get dinged if housekeeping comes in and it's trashed. I'm not quite sure how you can judge an individual based on the cleanliness of a hotel room, when they have zero control over the condition of more than half of the room.
I agree. Getting your own room...to me...is a big deal though. i.e. I was looking at shelling out $40/night for the scenario I mentioned above, just to get my own room. I wasn't dreading it from the going away for training standpoint, but the standpoint of either having to: 1. Pay out of pocket to get my own room, or 2. Risk getting doubled up with a complete slob that would make it a completely miserable experience. -

Comfort inn. Breakfast provided. They rent your group a minivan to tool around with on weekends and took get back and forth to school -
Yup. I figured I wouldn't even have to name them. Don't get me wrong...I really like the idea of discipline and accountability (it's one of the reasons I leaned towards TMC as my primary regional choice). However, a week out from my ship date...I'm sitting here dreading the thought of either shelling out $520 (plus tax) to get my own room...or play the roommate lottery game. Then I get to play the trainer lottery game and look forward to living with him in a sleeper cab for five weeks.
Do you head straight home/to your home terminal after the four weeks is complete? -
Yea my original cdl school teacher wanted me to go there so bad....on the thursday of your last week you'll get road tested by a safety guy (from corporate) and then will fly out Friday sometime. Probably report back to work on Monday.bubbagumpshrimp Thanks this.

Well i work for SEFL in hazelhurst Ga and i love it. I worked the dock for a while at 17 dollars an hour. Then they put in a truck and my pay jumped to 21 dollars an hour. Then while i was in training i never had a pay cut. And i trained for 4 weeks doing pickups and deliveries. I ran west tallahassee out of valdosta ga. Pay is excellent on both p&d and linehaul. While i was in training i was in a new truck and i got a new truck when i got out. Depending on your location you may have to travel for training and orientation. But they pay for your food, room, and pay per hojr and mile,to drive back and forth. Southeastern is non union. And i work about 60 hours a week. I drive and work the dock when i get back in. And i also hook sets when we are done breaking freight. I love it and im just glad not to be otr. The only downside to me is unless you have a city truck then you have to share a road truck with a linehaul driver and those trucks are assigned to the linehaul guy so be ready to slip seat

Thank you for the response on SEFL. Pay wise, that's roughly what I'm expecting in my area. Hours wise, that's what I'm expecting too. From what I've heard talking to people in my area...the local terminals at both places are good places to work.
Both ABF and SEFL looked to have good looking trucks. Most of what I see running around in my area are Volvos (I liked the only Volvo truck that I've driven so far). -
