Good point. Another thing, too, is the old boy that helped talk me into the automatic concept used to run Chicago to LA when it was still Rt 66, so, I figure if he can get behind it, who was I to argue?

Wow, I've been in a 2015 Volvo for 4 months now. My boss didn't spring for the manual select button. I hate the thing. Had to go to Allentown on Wednesday in the snow. First time I had to stop on a snow covered rt 309, I slid halfway thru the intersection before the #### thing stopped.
It's going to be a fun winter.

What does stopping or going too fast for conditions have to do with how gears are selected or shifted?
How do they manage in scandanvia ?
    Are they supermen?
    Smarter then us?

I got to drive a 13 780 with a D13 I shift for a couple days this past summer, and I really liked it.

I'm never under 80K and usually over 90. I'd buy one in a heart beat, next time I'm in the market, if they prove reliable pulling heavy day in and day out.

I trained in a Volvo I shift for several weeks and am now assigned to a Volvo with a 9 speed. Both are great transmissions and I prefer the 9 speed. I get just as good mpg and in my opinion an automatic encourages riskier driving. You have to plan ahead in a manual to make turns or exit a highway. In an auto you just mash the brake. This may not be the case for experienced drivers but for newer drivers that these transmissions are supposed to help recruit; I believe it makes them an unsafe driver. Again this is just my opinion as a new driver myself.

Starting to feel the same ,no one should not be allowed to drive autos until they have 10 years experience, until then they are 'rookies' and should so state on the lic.:biggrin_25522:

Yeah, obviously I was going too fast with an automatic. Next time, I'll make sure I have an anchor with me to throw out the window.
