Large carriers don't pay that much to o/o. He works for a company in chicago. I know my cousin has his own truck and trailer. gets paid $2-3 a mile.

the American Transportation Research Institute just released their annual survey of the cost to operate a truck,,the big carriers say that it cost them with driver wages $1.68/mile to own and operated a truck tractor,, go to their website and read the report,it breaks the cost down to every category,,the report says the hourly cost os about $67/hr..if you are earning less you are loosing money,,so you see why carriers use O/Os they can hire an O/O cheaper that they can run their own trucks and even with paying cheap wages,

when I was at Central I've heard plenty of SOLO drivers claim they were successful, and even had one show me his paychecks (for some reason)

but 1) that's truck drivers talking
    2) that Central...so who knows what's actually true

I was told its $1.68, that's irrelevant if you pay the driver or not. that's how much it costs to run that truck

Between truck expenses which include ins and payment and fuel, it cost me about .75/mi to run my truck, based on 2800 miles and a average of 7.8/gal and a truck payment with all of the expenses of $702/wk. You do the math

I can only tell you the old package and that would be about .93/mi loaded and .38/mi FSC. I only took a fast look at the new package and decided not for me. My mt for 2 years has been less then 5.6%

So did you figure in for tires, oil changes, engine overhaul, transmission overhaul, blown air bag, alternator replacement, that week that your truck isn't earning because it took a week to get that new radiator installed, etc?

Too many O/Os severely underestimate their costs of operation.
