As to the comment on lining the drug companies pockets, I don't consider 8 bucks a month outrageous. That's what it costs me for my BP meds.

    Just my $0.02.

Wild Murphy, okiedokie and allniter Thank this.

If you are overweight, lose some weight. See if that helps. I did and it helped but I still went to the doc and he prescribed some meds that got it down. Don't you wait til your DOT physical to find out your BP is high. If you do, and it is, you'll only get 90 days to show it's down and under control. After that you will only be able to get certified for 1 year at a time forever. i mean you'll have to get a DOT physical every year.

    Wild Murphy Thanks this.

I was on pills but lost weight and worked in west Texas heat. That and at the time I cut down drinking.

Must be different in some states. Oregon after you keep BP down for 2 years you can get the full deal on the DOT physical.

Hi okie, I agree with kemosabe, in Wis., if you are taking meds for bp, I'm pretty sure the most you'll get a med card for is 1 year.

    Wild Murphy Thanks this.

I have sleep apnea. I also think I can only get my med card for only 1 year also. But I am not certain on this.

Im trying to get a job with a new Co & was surprised to hear they wanted a Physical as well as a drug scan...Im 57 & not overweight..I do have heart problems run in my family.....It was 152/92 the 19th Nov...Then I went in again & it was higher.....Went in the other day & it was 145/78 top # still high....Got a 3 month card but if I get the BP under control then they will extend that for a year.....She put me on hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once a day...I go back in Dec 4th & see if the pills work....Just a word of advice get your BP checked & take care of it if its high...Im going to lay off the McDs & try to get more excercise...I love garlic so that should help & I also take one aspirin a day....The clinic I went to is into me for $400 but will cost a lot more if I ignore it....

I'm considering going into company sponsored CDL training and have BP issues which are controlled via meds. My last routine doc visit a few weeks ago showed my BP as normal and well within DOT limits. However, I am still skeptical that for some reason it might spike or something if I did go to orientation/training and then get sent home. Will a company 'honor' for lack of a better term, that DOT physical or do you still have to take one at their facility? Or can you even just walk into a clinic that does DOT exams and go 'Yo, I want a DOT physical?'
    Thanks

(Vonlucifuge) Depends on the Co whether you take the physical at their place or get your own.....Ask the Co about it but dont mention the high BP...If theyll take yours keep your long form in case they ask for it along with the card...Now it has to be DOT certified Doctors so check with the clinic beforehand & make sure they are certified to give DOTs because if the Doctor is not the State of your License will reject your physical & you will have to get another one...You have to send a copy of your card to the State for your CDL...Check your DMV website for the address or the Fax # where you send the copies of the card & what other info they want with it...Or at the time you get your CDL the DMV will also ask for a copy of the card & then it will be taken care of...
