I'll give your insight as much consideration as I gave the turd I just flushed.

First off, your location in FL isn't good because you live too far south for some companies. FL is considered a crappy state to be a truck driver from as we have few loads going out. You may have to put up with a crappy company like Werner or Swift before going to a better one. My advice is apply to all companies and pray that they hire that far. Some may make you drive to a terminal because trucks get stolen down in that area a lot. Companies I'd apply too: Werner, Swift, Trans Am, Cypress (flatbed). HO Wolding, Knight/Squire, Abilene Motor Express. Good luck to you.

For a professional you aren't taking this very well. Your attitude in general doesn't come off as a professional reading your post to other members here. And if this is any insight to the future you should get out now before the awakening. That is going to sting something awful.

In every business someone lies, there is just no getting around it and it is part of life.

Thanks for the info Challenger. I have offers from Werner, Knight, Roehl, Schneider, Covenant, Trans Am and two other Miami based OTR companies, both of which require offloading (not something I'm inclined to do at my age). Just called Cypress, HO Wolding and Abilene. Neither hire out of my area. In fact, if I lived only 23 miles north, Cypress would have entertained an offer (they cut off at West Palm Beach). So, screw it. I'll have to decide whether I'm going to Team up and go with Schneider, or fly up to Wisconsin to pick up my truck, do three weeks OTR and be flown back home for my 7 days off, and go with Roehl, or whether I'm going to go on a 2 week Regional route and be driven home from Lithia Springs (outside Atlanta) for my 2 days off, and go with Werner, or I put up with a 30,000 mile probationary period and go with Knight. I'm not going with Trans Am and I'm not sure I won't be "preached" to if I go with Covenant (I'm Jewish) LOL.

Truth-be-told, the 5,000.00 sign on bonus with Werner sounds very appealing. They still have the 275 hour requirement and only pay $450.00 a week during training, whereas Roehl pays $90.00 a day during the 13 day training period and $600.00 a week during orientation, and only a .05 cpm difference between the Roehl pay and the Werner pay per mile. I suppose it depends on how many miles Werner drivers average. Roehl told me their drivers average between 6,800 and 8,400 in a 20 day period.

Thanks for your input Lazydog. No pun intended, but you're preaching to the proverbial "choir." Dispatchers lie, lawyers lie, even judges lie. If it seems I'm not taking this very well, then let me just say that it only seems that way. I have no qualms with people stretching the truth. But, I think it's pathetic that a company will retain anyone who can't, or won't, even look up an application record, and then resort to giving you a lame line of crap. Besides, from what I was told a few weeks ago, I don't believe Melton would have been a good fit for me anyway. I only wanted to follow up in the event things had changed and hiring practices had evolved to my benefit.

    IOW, no lost love here.

BTW, with regard to your comment about whether this is an insight to the future, the operative word is "if." I'm not afraid of hard work. I wouldn't have voluntarily left a lucrative position as a legal professional, and all that such entails, to go drive trucks around the country, if I was afraid of hard work, or for that matter, afraid of someone lying to me. I will not be a pawn for anyone. OTOH, I will bend over backwards to accommodate the needs of the company, to the best of my ability and under reasonable circumstances. It's my M.O.

All the "I'm the best" crap, will get the OP nothing, being 52 and two prior careers, means nothing as well, graduating from a truck driving schools mean " have CDL with zero experience, any company worth going to, with zero experience will require going with a trainer for at least 2weeks, if no trainers available, getting angry over it is childish

You must have been born in the sleeper berth of truck and with a CDL-A in your wallet, because you have no clue as to whether I'm even angry.

BTW, what means nothing to you, means lots to me. Much the same as what means lots to you, means as much as the turd I flushed this morning does to me.
