Thanks gunner. We'll keep the updates comming. Maybe I'll see you on the road sometime. On yea one more question, what do you think is a good side skill to have while trucking? I'm looking to use my GI bill for school and figures that learning to be a mechanic would probably benefit me on the road. Especially since I have no prior skills at all about mechanics.
Ok, I'm done derailing your thread now. Thanks again

I liked the transition from the Marine Corp into trucking. It made it easier for me and definitely helped me adjust better. I need my time away from everybody so it was nice. Where are you stationed Big Gunz? Arty I'm guessing with the name?

I know they have a few based out of florida but not many as the freight they have their isnt much. you can try giving recruiting a call and asking, or going to the facebook page and asking there.

it would definitely help in trying to diagnose problems faster. and if you plan to buy your own truck, it will help in keeping your overhead down since youll be able to do more of the work yourself

Thanks man, I'm stationed in okinawa right now but plan to pcs to to camp Pendleton to try the troop to trucker program. Ever heard of it? Well the name came from two places. I have big arms and my rank is gunny. How long have you been trucking? I'm kinda a loner and don't really want that responsibility of looking after marines any more lol. I know that's bad to say but I think it's just time for me to move on. I'm at 16 years right now, so 4 more till retirement.

Thanks Gunner for starting this thread, well done. I appreciate all of the info that has been posted. It has given me a very good insight about TMC & life on the road. I will be starting CDL training in February. Travel safe.

I've been truck this time since October 2010. I drove for a year prior to me going into the corp also back from 05-06. I took the troops to truckers course for my refresher to get me on with TMC. Great program and they make sure you know what your doing. I don't blame you for not wanting the responsibility of having to deal with marines like me and the other guys I was in with when we were Lance Corporals. I'd be wanting to bust some heads lol. 29 palms infantry Marines should be enough said on that.

Well, im back at the house. I developed a really bad toothache monday. Its kept me from being able to get a decent nights sleep. So i asked my FM to route me home. Since the load I was on was heading to Mansfield Oh, it wasnt a big deal. Im set for a dentist appointment in the am, and pretty sure I will be getting 1 or 2 teeth pulled due to complete neglect by myself. No one to blame but myself. Not sure what the dentist will do, or how this is going to affect my driving for the rest of the week, guess we will find out.

Jacksonville shouldn't be really an issue...you're close enough to Georgia
