I start orientation w Averitt on January 19. Can anyone give me some pros and cons of first yr OTR. I've talked to several drivers and none have had anything bad to say which is odd to me. U can find something wrong w any company... just curious. I've heard u can expect to make only $550-600/wk is this about right? Working out of Shreveport terminal

Did Averitt make you get your Hazmat and Tanker before they hired you? I think they give you 30 days after you get hired. Is also very much like to work for Averitt after school. I've already filled out my app and stuff the recruiter says I pretty much got a job when I get outta school.

I already have my tanker but not enough funds rite now for ha-ha but they said they will give u time to get it. Seems like a good place to work bc I've talked to about 10 different drivers and they all said they aren't going anywhere. Just seems like the money won't b great or even consistent for awhile. I'm married w 3 kids and need consistent cash flow. Go to truck stops and if u see an averitt truck talk to em they have all been real nice

Yea my last job was at a rest area I've talked to plenty of them. I don't have my tanker or Hazmat yet but they said they give you 30 days to get it. I'm kinda tight on funds too. I'm looking at going to orientation if I get hired with them with like 200 dollars that should be enough I hope it is. I'm single so start out pay isn't really a deciding factor for me.

Tanker is a piece of cake
Chinatown Thanks this. -
You're married with 3 children; should have gone tanker/hazmat so you can "take home" over a thousand a week. Lots of tanker work in LA that hire new CDL graduates. You won't even come close to grossing a thousand a week at Averitt, much less take home.

The only place I had an interview was w Select Energy but heard lot of bad stuff about them. Gonna do at least one year to get experience then if I'm not happy I'll make a move

Did you try:
SVTN
CTL Transportation
Superior Carriers
Tidewater Transit
Trimac Transportation
After 2 years with Trimac you can jump to over $80K per year in their "Elite Fleet."
At least check out the websites and do some online applications. -
Never heard of those. R there around shreveport area?
Chinatown Thanks this. -
They either have terminals in LA or spend lots of time running I-10. You won't have to worry about hometime because the Gulf Coast is loaded with chemical plants from Tampa, FL to Corpus Christi, TX.
When I worked tanker/hazmat the new CDL grads, 2 at my terminal, made over $60K their first year solo.
I just hate to see a man with a wife and children struggle when they don't have to. I've been there, so I know what it's like.
All the companies I listed hire new CDL grads, even if the website has different. Just have to apply.
