According to the Employment Security Department in Washington, Swift plans to lay off 180 worked in Pasco, WA. Looks like the layoff date is end of January 2015. Anyone have any further information on this?

Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.

Yes, I work here.
It ####### suck. Swift basically decided to be greedy and ConAgra said "we ain't having it". So they put the contract up for sale. They told us right before Thanksgiving.
What really pissed me off is they just signed the new contract a few months ago. Why didn't they ask for more then?! We had security here for 3 more years. None of the other trucking companies here, under ag law, are as regulated as Swift so they pretty much work their drivers like slaves.
This is very frustrating. -
Now you just watch, gonna be Driver-Blamers come along and claim the DRIVERS musta done something really, really wrong to warrant shutting down 180 jobs... you watch.
At least Washington State has sense to REQUIRE companies to notify of upcoming layoffs, not just announce, "Oh, by the way, we're shutting the doors on Monday. Don't bother coming in..."
Consolidated Freight did that in 2002, I think it was, and put 15,000 drivers out of work on a Labor Day holiday. No notice. Just hasta la vista...
Meanwhile, Con-way, that split off from CF in 1983, kept chugging right along.
In the recent Conference Call about 3rd Quarter, Swift bragged it planned to add 300-500 new tractors in Truckload in 2015 and had already added 300 in 3rd quarter and planned 200 more in 4th. The question came up, was this unseated trucks? Just plans to seat unseated trucks?
Answer was, no, this is brand new trucks added to system. That's like adding a few good-sized trucking companies... this year and next!!

Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
Instead of wasting money on new tractors they don't have drivers for they should have let us keep our #### jobs!

I thought they didn't have enough drivers, shouldn't they at least be trying to roll these guys into OTR driving? IT doesn't make much sense.

We definitely have enough drivers. It got a little rough toward the end of harvest with the crazy long hours though.
We have the option of going OTR. A lot of the guys who work here are locals that signed on with Central when ConAgra sold them the contract.
Personally, I hated driving otr after the regime change, that's why I came here. I'm not going back. -
Victor, I've noticed a huge increase in the size of the new driver orientation groups the rare times I am at any of the terminals. I see that as anecdotal evidence of a large boost in hiring due to the company driver pay increase.
FrankLepton1 Thanks this. -
A21CAV has this been over a span of time or recent?
There seems to be a pattern with a large influx toward the end/beginning of the near year. Last year everything seemed to be swamped and there wasn't nearly enough trainers to handle to demand. -
