Google maps on laptop with Rand Mcnally 730 GPS is what I would go with.

I use Waze. The interface is clear and so far their have not been serious issues. Talks, and gives plenty of notice when to turn. I also like the warnings for red light cameras, and radar detection. It is a free program, like so many are. Tried google, and several others, this on eso far seems very good.

I use Microsoft's Streets & Trips. It comes with a GPS so I can find myself. If you have access to internet, it can locate your position in a satellite photo. Or where you're going so you can see if there's room to turn around once you get there. It will route you safely in a car, not truck friendly. Works fine as I use it in my 11'8" motorhome too.

I have to agree, I love my Copilot. But an informed and knowledgeable technical advisor of this forum has told me that Copilot has come up short on updates for the Windows based maps, (like a year or more overdue) which the OP states he has. On my Android tablet Copilot rocks. I couldn't be more pleased. I've read many reports of MS Streets and Trips also being strong, and yes, Google maps are now downloadable for offline use.

Beautiful thing about Copilot, drag and drop routing. Not sure if other maps offer this feature.
Edited to add, just this year Google made their maps downloadable for offline use. I'm nearly positive I read this. Maybe some can chime in on Google maps usefulness.
