    I've been with OD for about four months now and can say that I'm truly thankful to have such a fantastic employer. I'm a linehaul driver. I won't hit top pay rate for another year or so, but I'm already clearing after taxes around $1000.00 a week - that's after all deductions too, like 401k and benefits. I'm at close to .58 cpm and average 2500 miles a week. I'm home every night with two days off a week. Paid vacation jumps from 1 week to 2 weeks after just one year of employment.

    Besides the excellent company matching for 401k (company management and growth has been tremendous), we get 6+ paid holidays a year (including birthday), employee benefits are free (if just for the driver), equipment is maintained every three months, tractors include Freightliner Cascadias and Volvos, and plenty of terminals are currently being remodeled - yet another example of company growth. During the recession that hit a few years back, ODFL didn't cut wages and has continued to provide company 401k matching. In short, OD is a strong company that is experiencing consistent, healthy growth. You can see evidence for this with the company stock.

    There are other perks that I just can't think of right now. I work out of one of the larger company terminals. And no, I'm not a recruiter. :biggrin_25520: I'm just a driver that is thankful for being part of such a great company. OD is the type of company you can join and stay with.

    do you guys just go out to one terminal and then come back? I mean, are you home daily?

    Or do you stay out for a week(or whatever), going from terminal to terminal?

    It all depends on the terminal and location. We have both. Bag drivers will stay out up to 4 days of a 5 day work week. Drivers can usually choose to stay out longer if they'd like. I started as a bag driver, but usually only stayed out 2-3 days. I am now home daily, or what's considered a wild turn driver, instead of a wild bag driver. I turn, which means I always come back to my home terminal and then go back to my house. Wild means you don't have a scheduled run, but fill in for needed runs or extras. Other LTL companies call it being on the extraboard.

    Hope that wasn't confusing, I gave you a lot of different terms. But the short answer to your question is that it all depends on the terminal you work out of. Each terminal is like it's own mini company, and only hires for positions it has a need for. Since I work at a larger break-bulk terminal, I have more options and will grow in seniority faster.

    Nope, standard linehaul for my LTL company. ODFL is one of the top paying LTL outfits.

    How long did it take you to get hired on after you started the application process? Haven't heard anything in almost a month. I've got the endorsements, experience, and my MVR and CSA are cleaner than a preacher's sheets. I'd have thought that would at least get me an interview.

    You're a solo driver? I figured it to be near impossible to get on with OD unless you run team.

    Wow, I had no idea. Wages are on the rise but that is the best I've seen from a major carrier. I just started with K&B 3 months ago and would feel schmucky not giving them a year ...but ..... I have a pretty good deal with them and it's pretty easy work ...but still ...

    After the app, road test, and drug test is done, it usually takes about 2 weeks to get the final approval from corporate. Did you already fill the app out then? Have you contacted OD?

    It differs by terminal. The individual terminals only hire according to their current needs. Some are smaller, and very hard to get into. I know drivers out of my terminal that actually choose to be bag drivers - staying out for 5 days at a time - since they commute a few hours one way to their home terminal. One guy has a terminal that's closer to his house, but they're small, and rarely hire. The bigger the terminal, the greater the opportunity.

    But yes, I am a solo driver. I could go team if I wanted to, but I have a family.
