You sound genuine and respectful. I knew there were companies out there like DCL because I know there are still good men in this world. I happen to be one of them (did u just hear a tooting horn? Lol) no really I am. I was a KC metro local driver flatbedding fora steel company for a few years before my brother talked me into buying a truck. I worked at a Pizza Hut for 3 years to earn enough tip money for a 15 k down payment and I've managed to save 50k in just under 3 years. I'm educated too as I earned a bachelors degree at the age of 36 in management but found I could not be cooped up in a building. The road is in my blood. I've felt sort of lost lately wondering that there has to be more and I recall a successful businessman, Charlie Walker, who started Blue Beacon told me the key to his success was surrounding himself with good people. And I totally agree with that. I run 3k a week on elog And my avg is 2500 a week but I still haul for a major corporation that cares little about me. So I will be calling and researching. Walker also told me this when I had some bad misfortune - he said "Phillip did you do your research?" And i
never forgot that! P.S I grew up with his
grandson. Anyways thanks I will be in touch

Well, my research here went as far as a bill board sign sitting outside of the sign makers area in the flying J. and so my research is first hand day by day coming from being totally flat broke, to money in my pocket, and bills paid, and no worries or issues. i take all the time off i need and or want, and have no worries.
I have been offered better paying jobs, but honestly someone could pay me $20.00 per mile to run for them and I wouldn't trade what I have here for that or even a million bucks. Ok, I would take the million, but I would have some sort of capacity of still working for DCL even if it was just doing 1 load a week just to have something to do as a hobby.
and its true if you hang around sucessful people than it can and does rub off,Lone Ranger 13 Thanks this. -
Well, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a happy New Years.
Being this is a new year and all, here is the latest update on DCL and my experience being here.
I hooked me a load, and was able to head towards the house, got to Cheyenne area and weather was bad, so bad that I didn't even think I was going to make it home for Christmas.
I found an opertunity with a break in the weather and headed towards the barn, and did make it home on the 23rd of Dec.
I am still currently at home, wife ended up in ICU again and was planning on leaving out on Monday the 5th. but decided that since she has an appt on the 6th, would wait things out and make sure she was ok before going out again. As this next time I am thinking of being out til march/april. (it really depends on some things, such as wife's health, taxes, etc...etc...).
But, as far as a top notch company for an O/O to be leased too, I can clearly and very proudly say that I haven't found a small company this good, that not only meets my needs but also meets my families needs, and DCL treats me as family.
Again, I still have no issues, here, no problems, no worries, no stress, nothing. I think if more companies would follow how DCL treats the drivers and people who work here I think that all drivers company and O/O would be happy.
Speaking on that part of things DCL is looking for 1 or 2 drivers as company drivers. Which would also allow the right candidate to become an O/O if one wants to give it a shot no bones, no bull about it. But if one wants just to be a company driver that is fine too.
Anyways, I am still here and on April 14, 2015 it will make it 1 year that I would have been here working. and has been one of the best experiences in my whole 13 years of driving. I don't think that there is a company that can even compare to or can give a driver what one gets, and receive here. (trust me, if I found a flaw, or thought there was something devious going on here, I would have been out of here long ago).
but what one can get here to me is more than going to another company that may pay more. I will keep what I make here and the security vs trading it off for more money and having all the stress and worries that I had before I even got here.
anyways, I am at home, and just kicking it for now, not stressing or worrying about anything except for my family, and maybe figuring out what i am going to do for the day.
so everyone keep it safe, and I will keep updating this thread and if anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to pm me, I may not get back to you til after I get back on the road again, but rest assured I will get back to you.
well, I am outta here til at least the 8th. ttys. stay safe....pattyj Thanks this. -
You not coming on here much is proof DCL is keeping you busy.Glad you're happy with them.Anymore there's not many drivers even happy with his profession.

Hey man just read your thread here and it sounds like you've found a good fit for yourself!
I myself am working for a small company and am very happy. I beleive there are bumps in every road but it's what you make of it! I do have a question it kind of stumped me while reading your first post. You said that you were having bad times with werner, but then you decided to lease? Lol it worked out for you! But still when someone is having trouble with a company the last thing you would want is to lease but like I said it worked for you and your happy that's all that matters stay safe and I wish you the best of luck in 2015The Challenger and Lowa3468 Thank this. -
well i was looking to get out of trucking all together and figure werner would have been my ticket out of the driving industry all together, and then i figured I would lease and go out in a big bang. I mean really might as well go big or go home.
Leasing wasn't so bad at first then when i got closer and closer to completing the lease well things really started to go down hill. I went a couple of months without a check, and still cannot figure out why or what happened.
as it is now, ever since I have been at dcl not once have i gone without a check, even when i have had major repairs, (ok, what I call major, I guess to me an engine blow up would be a catastrophy.)
I would agree that every job, has some sort of bump in the road, but there is a difference in a bump and a speed hump.
ok, lets be real, as i have been honest in this thread about things in mho, are there some bumps here? well the answer is yes, but these bumps here are not to me much to worry about or even mention, really....as there are somethings i don't mind, and others i do, such as... maybe i have to wait once in awhile to get loaded or unloaded, or like today was given a load and then told that it wouldn't be ready til 2100. (ok crap happens) but to me it doesn't even come close to hitting my radar.
Now, if lets say it was a continual thing day in day out on waiting for loading, or unloading and I am wasting hours doing it, now it becomes a problem.
but honestly even when the shipper told me it would be about 2100 before i got loaded, i took it with a grain of salt, and said ok....talked to my bosses about what was going on here and to see about detention pay. but as it turned out i was loaded and out of there at 1830. ok so i sat 3 hours today waiting to get loaded, but only spent 1/2 hour this morning getting unloaded which is about the norm.
I am very on top of my time, as i feel that my time is valuable, and i don't like wasting my time or having others waste it for me, and if they do someone is going to pay, and if they don't want to well i would only take so much before i am hunting for a new home.
I have been here almost a year, and in the time I have been here haven't even looked or had a reason to look for another company to work for. I have places i can go, but i am happy what i do here, I get treated with respect, I am dealt with honestly, and if I am not happy well, (not being happy happened when I was sent to NJ. last time for running the east coast for me). I just explain it to my boss and he makes it all good with me.
The last thing DCL wants is unhappy drivers and will bend over backwards to make sure that their drivers are happy. (again just as in the normal population of people, there are still some people that no matter what one does will make them happy.)
But anyways, April coming up quick, and hoping the weather will break soon getting tired of this winter already.T_TRUCKER⢠Thanks this. -
WOW, I can't believe it's been this long since I had done an update on this thread....but sometimes real life takes the driver seat....and there has been allot going on in my life this last couple of months...a brief outline of things that have gone on....
1) did a move to a better place to live
2) wife had been in and out of hospital and as of this posting has been in a care center
3) been running my butt off
Next month will make it one year that I have been with DCL trucking, and I have had my up days and down days....but since this thread is mainly about where I am at and how I am doing here well here is the latest news.
I been running hard, still haven't had any issues, or problems with DCL, no stress, no bs, nothing... in matter of fact it gets harder and harder to think about things to write about as everything has been as I have stated since I first started here. I still have no reason to look any where else for a job, or have been concerned with what others are doing etc..... I do, at times ask different drivers of what they make and such just to research, and my wages, and miles, and all that I get here still are better than what others are doing or getting elsewhere.
I am so happy and glad that I have found DCL, and wish that I had found them sooner....
Not sure what more I can say, except that the grass can really be greener on the otherside, and from where I am at now I don't see any greener pastures than where I am at. One cannot beat the family atmosphere, the open door policies, or the stress free enviroment that I am currently in.
If other companies were to follow, and were to treat drivers like I get treated here one wouldn't have to worry about driver turnover, or drivers that just don't care and just run.
One is treated like a person and not like the monkey behind the wheel....all I can really add is that if one is really looking for a great place to work, stress free, do what one wants, with no hassles, and no issues, then dcl is the place to be.
and if one isn't going to get rich out here driving a truck, one might as well be happy driving a truck and still have money to spend when one goes home... I don't know about everyone else, but being here was the best decision and the best business decision i have made, and I wouldn't trade what I have here for anything....
anyways, that is about all I can say at this time, as I am not sure what else to say, I really have nothing to complain about, or anything, as there is nothing here to complain about.
so if you are wanting or looking for a place to go with no issues or no problems this is the place to be.
