There definitely has been an in flux of new drivers. It seems I can't catch my breath after upgrading a student before they are sending me another one. Anytime I call the DSC she is asking if I need another student even if I already have one "sorry I'm just calling to put in for layover pay for my current student".

My other truck is the same way he is a mentor as well. There certainly isn't a shortage of students, but that doesn't necessarily mean there is no shortage of drivers, some quit after a few months just because they can't handle the OTR lifestyle and some quit while waiting for a mentor because there are not enough of us to go around, so there is sometimes a 1-2 week wait for a mentor.

At least that has been my experience with new drivers out of Columbus and Richmond terminals (those are the only terminals I pick up students from).

Best wishes yossarian, I hope all goes well for you in your future endeavors. It's unfortunate they lost the contract. That's certainly something you don't see every day with swift, usually we are the ones stealing contracts from other companies.

Thanks, I'll figure something out. It's just me so I don't have to worry about the stresses of taking care of a family.

It's local. We run agriculture trailers pulling potatoes from sheds and fields for the ConAgra plants in (North basin) Quincy, (Central basin) Pasco, and (South basin) Hermiston/Boardman.

Very few. Many of us came from ConAgra when Central bought the original contract.

Curious what Swift/ConAgra are telling the drivers. Who gets the blame, Swift? Was this ConAgra canceling the contract? On what ground? What friction points and what outfit gets this work?

180 seats would be a good-sized smaller company on its own.

Apparently local paper got no info from Swift: http://www.tri-cityherald.com/2014/12/01/3289604_trucking-company-to-lay-off-180.html?rh=1

TV station got little more: http://www.nbcrightnow.com/story/27...tion-workers-losing-jobs-out-of-pasco-in-2015

No much at the moment. I'm still piecing the story together.

They started handing out the official notices yesterday. The sad part is they didn't even have one of our bosses come do it. They made the poor leads for each basins the victims. Ya know, other guys who are losing their jobs too. They don't know much either so getting legitimate questions answered has been difficult.

I'll post pictures of the paperwork they gave us later.
