Maybe only from a looks and body standpoint. Underneath the the fancy name, the guts are the same as anyone else. Pete and KW do not make anything under there except now they make an engine. And all that other stuff breaks down just as much as anyone elses stuff. How a truck is spec'd from top to bottom, how it is driven, and how it is maintained speaks volumes more to any quality and longevity than a emblem on a hood. In almost 4 decades, when treated the same and in the same weather, etc, I have seen all the brands break down just as much. You just get to pay more for an emblem on a hood just like that deer emblem on a John Deere tractor. It is purely an ego thing.
-
The cabs are not the same. I'll take KW over anything.
-
Because almost everything about any brand new truck can be 100% user configured when you order a truck, there's really no way to do direct apples to apples comparisons like Car and Driver or Motor Trend do with cars. You can have two outwardly identical trucks from the same manufacturer, same year, same model, be completely different under the skin.

How many petes or KWs have you seen literally falling apart rattling down the road again? I wouldn't want to get it wrong? I've driven 5 freightshakers in a row. Everyone of them was a pos and nothing but problems with far less miles than I have on my Pete. Under the hood, over the hood and everywhere in between. Probably just dumb luck tho, huh?
Lucar and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
I will say the 2006 pete 379exhd I drove for Lonestar had 800k miles on it and not one single problem. No rattles, no air leaking from the windows, nothing. Only problem I ever had was my tilt button quit working for the steering wheel and my ac gave out just before they sold that truck.
-
Exactly. You get what you pay for.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
They call freightliner's shakers for a reason. As for paying more for that Deere emblem on the hood, just like everything else you get what you pay for. We have 5 of them, I could price everyone one of them at market value & have them all sold in a day, with a couple of them bringing as much as they sold for new. You want to drive a freightshaker, fine that is your decision,I don't & won't.
-
Sorry cowpie, I'll never drive freight shaker or international again. Did too many for long periods, nothing comes close to petes nor kws, and those that swear by international/freightliners are just afraid of buying more truck for a bigger investment. -
As bad as I hate to admit it I am driving a international now. The engine in my 03 t600 went down in april & after a couple months of looking for one with no luck a friend of mine put me on the truck I'm driving now. A 99 model 9900i with a 500 Detroit,13 spd.,& 3:90 rears. It runs good, pulls good, rides good,& gets good fuel mileage. It is making money & that is what counts, but it is no kw. I'm not satisfied with it & won't be,i have just tried to get used to it.
When I find a engine for the kw,this farmall will be for sale or my son can drive it if I can afford his insurance.
I heard a older guy say when time when he was talking about working,That a satisfied mind was worth a lot when it comes to your job.To each his own though, that is why they make more than one brand.
