Basically what I'm asking is if PTSD is a medically disqualifying illness under FMCSA. There is a presumption that taking psychotropic medications for this disorder could be medically disqualifying--the disqualifying aspect being the taking of the medications, and not the diagnosis of PTSD itself.
I am aware that chronic schizophrenia and anxiety disorder with medications could be disqualifying, but from what I understand, PTSD is not even discussed. Any insight? Oh and please back your facts up... that's important here![]()

What does this have to do with trucking? Do you really think that you should be driving an 80k piece of equipment if you are diagnosed with ptsd? We have stupid drivers out there already. Where do you think this is going? Thats the problem with this forum. It seems that if someone thinks up an issue, they should post here. My cousin suffers from ptsd, do I think he should pursue a truck driving career? **** NO. This is not the place to discuss this topic. Another common sence topc.

Why dont we discuss the ebola issue since we are at it? Or maybe the ongoing aids issue? Smmfh

The medical exam is easy to understand.
Just read it and answer the questions honestly.
You'll have your answer.25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
To the best of my knowledge, which I wouldn't rely upon myself, a driver can take any medication the prescribing doctor says will not adversely affect their ability to drive. I'd try to look it up if the FMSCA had not aborted their website.
My (pretty severe) PTSD was effectively treated (not cured) with a couple years of Prozac and cognitive therapy. I haven't had any urge to kill anyone who desperately needs it in more than a decade.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
You appear to be aware of your problem , that's all I'd worry about.
The DOT tools that do the physicals are literally looking for something to
disqualify drivers every time they enter their office.
They don't know what you don't tell them ,
don't help them put you out of work.Grouch and DriverToBroker Thank this. -
Classic! Absolutely CLASSIC!!!!!

This isn't about me. This is a general question about what is medically allowed under federal regulations. Did any of you guys actually read "hey guys I have PTSD can I drive a truck ?" No. You did not. Way to jump to conclusions.

i don't think you quite understand. The question, is NOT "I have flashbacks from my five tours in Iraq and have PTSD, can I be a trucker ??" No. The question is, is this disorder medically disqualifying under the FMCSA or DOT regulations?

So it's just a theoretical question that you're too lazy to research on your own?
