we havent dodged any questions, you keep sticking your fingers in your ears and pretending that no one will answer. the union isnt going to sign off on a contract that makes things worse.

YRC and ABF are in a different contract than you would ever get, because of how their contract works, they will get different consideration from the union. when you get "cadillac" health insurance at no cost, and 10$ an hour or MORE into a retirement plan, because you work under a contract that originated during the heyday of regulated trucking.

what conway would get, i would estimate, would be closer to what other companies get, a company pension plan, neotiated health insurance thru the union, since that part WOULD be cheaper, work rules that are greivable, etc...

I grew up in a pro-Teamster house in the 1950's. My father was a union steward who was always on call for any union business that had to be taken care of on a phone call's notice. My first driving job was at a Teamster company and only lasted 2 years because of a recession in late 60's early 70's. I worked for non-union companies for almost 10 years and those were some great times and I survived just fine. I moved to Florida and found another Teamster job which also lasted for 2 years because the company tried to exert the control over another customer buy out. Again I worked for non-union companies, some bad and some good. I started at Con-Way when they started operations in Florida and were still separate companies and not Con-Way Freight. It was the best experience I ever had working for a company up to that point. It got a little worse when all the regional Con-Way companies merged into 1 as Con-Way Freight. I retired from Con-Way after 14 years and I do get a monthly pension that was non contributed to by me and my 401K is still earning 7% in an annuity. I felt like the upper management whom a lot of them came from CF took advantage of the creation of ConWay to take care of their own pockets with credits for time served at CF to ensure they had their pensions protected. If the employees of Con-Way feel that they need union protection it is their right being American citizens to vote for it. Just remember that there used to be a Con-Way Eastern Express when they formed the original Con-Way Central, Con-Way Southern and Con-Way Western Express companies and it was unionized. They quickly closed that operation to kill the union and waited a short time then moved back into the northeast with Con-Way Central like nothing ever happened. Go ahead and vote your mind and heart but remember that there are no guarantees on anything. If it's not broken don't try and fix it. Good luck in your decisions.

It's a moot point anymore. I don't believe support was ever near what was publicized by the pro union side. Harlingen, Texas voted no and elections have been cancelled in Irvine, California and San Bernardino, California which was the SoCal terminal they needed.

He said what I was going to say.
Changing the way things work just to make a change seems foolish.

Despite all of the "scary union stories" about how bad working conditions are at Con-Way, most people that work there agree with me.

The union "fad" at Con-way is a dead issue I'm afraid. It's too bad we will never know the end result of becoming signatory, but is it? Contracts can be renegotiated just as easy as a promise can be broken. Especially if it is done in the name of economics. I think that a union would have provided a process to grieve our complaints but there was no guarantee that a better deal was going to be obtained via a contract. In fact, it may have been worse? Either way, a couple more barns are scheduled to vote and this will be over.

    or is it?? :biggrin_25525:

Correct me if I'm wrong, R&L doesn't pay over time. OD and Dayton don't pay until 50 hours. Those are three obvious places that drivers can "get more with a union", but I don't hear about drivers wanting to organize at those places. Why is that?

because those drivers drink the company kool aid, and are afraid. why not include conway in the mix as well, as there are still non union companies that offer a pension.

Or are happy, very well paid(much better then some union companies), and want a very strong company to work for in the future . How long can YRC take the type of losses they have over the last few years, and survive?
Talked to a guy who hired on at YRC the same time I joined OD . He is making .12 less a mile. And union still wants dues out of that. Is he better off? Heck he could go to Epes and make more. And not have to pay dues or a strike.

and there is a 3 hear progression to the .54 cpm, yep. but why dont YOU compare your benefits? i know what you guys pay, whether you will admit it or not, others already have. and your wife is forced off the plan IF she has any insurance available!

and on top of that, the retirement match is only 30 dollars on the 1000 gross, which is nothing. i ve worked under a NEGOTIATED 401k where they gave us an automatic hourly contribution, just like a pension. you couldnt make enough at OD to get what i received without contributing a penny.

and why dont you ask that YRC guy about how much he makes on layover and breakdown. you guys donate 4 hours, then only get 7.50. YRC driver is IMMEDIATELY on the clock at over 21 an hour.

with all the "benefits" of working for OD, you can keep it, id still take YRC any day of the week. hell, the "raises" you guys got almost got you on par with 2008 union scale. wow.
