I concur. If I ever went back to being a company driver,.. knowing what I know now,.. I would need to be paid percentage.

Unless you routinely dead head 250+ miles, percentage will always pay more. That and many companies dont pay CPM for dead head anyway,.. or if they do they dont pay until you exceed 50 - 75 mi. So the first 1 - 1.5 hours you drove for free anyway.
Do the math,.. percentage is the way to go.

Always made the most money being paid percentage.cpm is the worst.

95% of companies are not getting this run, and 100% of that 5% that are, is not getting it consistently.
You gave me an example of the BEST case scenario.....now let's see a realistic case for Melton. TMC, Maverick, Boyd Bros. etc.... -
You bring up bottom rung companies.
If you haven't noticed most of the guys that hang out in here do not run with those type of companies. I do not know but maybe cpm is better for bottom rung companies. If you work for anything but a bottom rung company percentage has a huge advantage over cpm.
Edit: Now that I think about it ive read several times that TMC guys have figured their pay at percentage and cpm and they always come out on top on percentage. -
Hey guys- freight broker here. I work for a big (ish?) broker in Chicago. Do you guys primarily work with brokers or do you prefer to work direct with shippers/ your own customers?
A friend of mine works for a company that rents commercial machinery (they use CH as their broker...who TOTALLY screws them...CH makes at least $500 per flatbed load!!!)
They are currently debating to use their own in house logistics team and doing away with brokers altogether ( he has asked me to consider working for them direct)....any major concerns here?Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Why is this some breakthrough? My company paid 50 cpm to our drivers before switching to all OO. I'd pay 48 plus pass all the accessory pay through, including 10% of LTL gross.

Your phone is ringing, it's a Phoenix Arizona number....Whoever that is.....

Preference is always direct. Why work with a broker when you can get the whole pie? I'd definitely make the jump. You will save the shipper a tone of money with your expertise and you will give drovers a better experience when dealing with that company.
It's always better dealing with someone knowledgeable.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Yes I do; because it is important that the "newbies" and "wannabies" be represented here as well...and they deserve ALL 'correct' information they can get in their decision making process.
I have NOT noticed, because I myself do not "hang out in here". One thing I DO know however; is I wanna make sure newbies/wannabies don't get the wrong idea or false hope in what to expect if they are researching companies available to them in the flatbed side of the industry, and the pay THEY might expect.
It is. Gonna have to take my word for this one. Got 20 years in the industry, and I have tried every combination of everything offered to a driver in the industry---and if a driver pays REAL CLOSE attention to their check, ALL miles driven, etc...mileage pay is better for a new company driver than percentage.I agree 100%! Once a newbie/wannabie get's their year or more in AS FAR AS PAY GOES they would be crazy to stick around with the megas (unless they are happy). Some people include benefits in with their pay, and it is no secret that megas can offer less expensive benefits simply because of their size. But for pay per mile only on cpm vs. %...I couldn't agree with you more for an experienced driver.
