It seems I get to post another tale of woe for the benefit of others.

II got another speeding ticket today. I wasn't speeding this time though.

The little town was a 30 mph zone and I entered the zone at 36 which is well within what the cops will let you away with in this area....6 mph is no points so they don't bother. I've been through here a zillion times. I crested a little knoll and he was sitting there at a stop sign. I looked at my speedometer.....36 mph so I think I'm fine. I apply a little brake anyway to bring myself down to 30 or lower. As I pass in front of him I am likely doing 30 mph with the brakes still on. He makes a right turn and falls in behind me. He follows me all the way through town and out the other side.....approx a mile to mile and a half. He had plenty of opportunity to pull me over but he didn't so again I think I'm fine. Outside of town it goes up to 50 mph so I go through the gears and get to 50 and he lights me up. He comes up to my window and says he clocked me on radar at 45 mph in a 30 mph zone as I was coming into town. I said "NO WAY, I was doing 35 mph when I was coming into town.". He disagreed and said I was doing alot faster than that......he said I was doing over 50.

This is an outright lie. He showed me the radar.....it said 45 (what a surprise) but there is no way I was speeding when he was behind me. My speedometer is accurate compared to my GPS.

How did he get me? Rosco followed me until I got back up near highway speed and then pressed the button on his radar. In the future, if I have a pig following me through a reduced speed zone I won't speed up until he passes me. Lesson learned.

go get an attorney, think they actually have to pull you over in a reasonable amount of distance, and if he pulled you over 1 - 1 1/2 miles down the road well I think the officer is out of luck.

Also, if you are on qualcom, or even if you are not. If you know the time that the incident occurred at, take your truck to the shop and have them download how fast you were going from xx time to xx time.

if you can get that and along with your logs, show up to court you can most likely get it thrown out or a good lawyer could. (i wouldn't just sit there and just eat a ticket if I knew I wasn't doing anything wrong.)

I think radar can only get your speed when your coming at them. It sends out a pulse and it bounces off you vehicle and back to the gun. The time it takes to come back is how they calculate the speed. In lamens terms he can not clock you from behind Lasers are more accurate cause they can pin point you and not other vehicles around you.

Anyway that is how it was explained to me

Oh you better believe I am pleading not guilty to this one. It's a mechanical engine so I am out of luck there. I didn't have my darn dash cam on either. Figured I didn't need it I was only 5 miles from the yard. ######!

while there are plenty of small town cops that love to write tickets I think you need to look at yourself first.
You do know 36 is more than 30 don't you? I mean it's kinda hard to tell by the the way you keep saying you were not speeding and all....
And even by your admission you didn't know your speed until after you saw the cop.
So I guess all I'm saying is before you complain about getting a ticket for speeding, you might to want to NOT actually be speeding.

When he said he "clocked me" I asked him if it was with his speedo or radar. He said it was with radar......"I switched to same direction".

I wasn't speeding while he was behind me.

I was doing 6 over coming into town and I will take 36 in a 30 no questions asked because it's no points. But that's not what we're talking about is it? We're talking about a cop that thinks he's above the law and he thinks he can make up the rules.

... or a small town cop with a radar that is seriously out of calibration. That's what I would have a lawyer check first.

Never said he wasnt speeding, and there is a big difference between 6 mph over, and 15 mph over, not to mention the cop is lying!
Take that ticket to court! If the cop has a dash cam it will show you going 36 in a 30,and speeding up for a 50mph zone. Spotting the sign is the same as the spoken words, in other words when you see the sign is when you comply with the sign! Cop is probably gambling that you will be out of town and unable to take this to court!
