I was married for 19 years to a man who was ALWAYS happier and in a better mood when he was having to "take care of things for me."
Even my children noticed once they were teens......... "daddy just likes to feel like he has to do everything doesn't he?"
I guess it made him feel needed or important?
I have also noticed it in the dating world....... there are a lot of men who still go for the "needy" women...... I have asked male friends and they say that it is true...... it is hard for them to feel important/needed if the woman works, takes care of herself and has her act together (self-sufficient?) ......... the guys don't see where we NEED them or what their role is........ definitely a dilema for many of us........Click to expand... -

Of course men feel this way. We must feel that we are needed as well as wanted to stay in a relationship. I for 1 enjoy being the go to person when difficulties arise. Of course I have molded and trained my wife to be more capable and self sufficient over the years. I adore her so much I felt it was my duty to enlighten her as much as I possibly could so that in the event of my demise she would not have to settle for some jerk that has a job and is wiling to pay the bills for her.
I have taught her how to drive a car, helped her learn how to balance a checkbook and set up a budget, and encouraged her to be more outgoing and less timid. Now I have introduced her to the world of trucking and am being her coach and mentor every day.
Some men actually like feeling superior and may become comtemptuos of a needy spouse and leave her behind when he finds an alternative female that not only stimulates his loins but stimulates his mind as well. In my case I prefer a capable, intelligent woman that complements me. My strengths complement her weaknesses and her strengths complement my weaknesses. The only way this works though is being secure in who you are, where you are going in life, and knowing your partner is the right one for your journey through life. In my case 2 out of 3 aint bad right? (She hates the job but likes the money go figure).Click to expand... -

If you feel you have to be 'needed' in this manner, I think you are afraid that your S.O. might leave if he/she can stand on his/her own two feet.thestoryteller said: ↑Of course men feel this way. "Want" is much more important. I think a relationship really only works if both sides WANT the other person.
When I first met my wife, she was.. not timid, but retiring. Now, she's not afraid to (politely) get up in the face of anybody (While on active duty in the Coast Guard, she actually shook her finger at the Commandant - in front of 300 officers and enlisted. She was an E-5 at the time)
Now she's a Paramedic. That's a job that requires a LOT of self-confidence. She can change the brakes on her car, sew a quilt, make stuffed animals, build a set of shelves in the closet - using scrap wood... the list goes on.
I taught my wife to drive a stick-shift. She figured out the checkbook and budget on her own (she's better than I am, too).I have taught her how to drive a car, helped her learn how to balance a checkbook and set up a budget, and encouraged her to be more outgoing and less timid. Don't think she'd like to drive a truck, though. For me, the drive is the point. I stop because I have to. She'd rather stop and see things..
I think the only disagreement I might toss in here is the 'stimulate his mind'. I'd suggest that what he wants is just the opposite. Some men actually like feeling superior and may become comtemptuos of a needy spouse and leave her behind when he finds an alternative female that not only stimulates his loins but stimulates his mind as well. 2 out of 3, yeah. where the HECK am I going? But I've been with this one lady for 28 years (almost 25 of which is married time). Odds are, I chose right. Not sure she did, but I'm not gonna complain.Click to expand... -
Liked the comments boys........ be careful or people might think truckers have brains!

-
nah - we don't expect them to believe the impossible. We DO expect that people learn that wimmins have brains.
Of a sort -
I know....I got it!..... it must be confusing to you boys that we keep all of ours in one location.......... ? ..........Lurchgs said: ↑Of a sortClick to expand...

Well my spouse tells me most mens brains are in our pants rather than on top of our shoulders. I just wonder where you all keep yours.... I mean I think I know where the wimmins are... under that blouse right???? Must be why most mens eyes stray there rather than maintain eye contact right???thestoryteller said: ↑I know....I got it!..... it must be confusing to you boys that we keep all of ours in one location.......... ? ..........Click to expand...
