Can people tell me what they think of roehl as a starting company right out of driving school?

It really depends on what you're looking for. Roehl offers a reasonably short training period to get into a solo truck, great home time plans, and a fair pay rate. If you don't care about having a ton of home time and don't mind a longer training period, you may have higher paying options.

Before I chose my starter company (Prime), I was working as a Fedex driver and I would dig into the brains of every OTR semi driver I ran into at any of my stops. Met a lot of Roehl drivers and all of them seemed to be very happy employees.

i worked for Roehl for quite a while. i really did love it. It was the company that took my trucking virginity. I had a brand new truck, everything was well maintained. They pretty much didn't bother me except bout once a week to make sure i was okay. I got sick on the road and told them i couldnt drive and throw up. They let me park it a few days until i felt better. once i asked my FM to go outside and measure the height of the truck...she kept me on the phone the whole time as she did it. was pretty #### funny.

the only problem i had was i didn't really get home as i desired. i would run like hell for 6 weeks or more, and then say hey, in 2 weeks i wanna be home. i remember one time i was trying to get to my dads for his surgery and to spend some hoetime with him, he lives in VA. This guy at the phoenix terminal with me got a load to VA even though i was waiting there longer. i ended up getting a load to north cali. and then to south cali. and then to chicago, WI, maryland, and then finally VA. i got their over a week after his surgery, and then she called me after two days and wanted me in the truck the next day. She doesn't work there anymore.

that being said, anywhere you go, FMs are going to be a questionable group of people. some will love you, some will hate you, some wont even know your name....unless you wreck. if you have any questions, shoot me a pm!

Hey Bubba, I'm from Wis. and I know Roehl has been around a long time. I've talked to driver's that were happy, but maybe they are happy to be WORKING, as Wis took a pretty big hit with jobs. But they have nice equipment, a big plus, and heard they will work with you. I too, have heard of drivers taking their 6 days off( or whatever) in the boonies somewhere, but there are much worse places than Roehl. Good luck.

Roehl has a site here under Trucking Carrier forums. Lots of stuff to read.

I pulled a skateboard for them and was empty. I came up on a tunnel that was rounded instead of square. i the part that would be the corners i guess, it said 12'8 or something, and this van driver stopped in front of me and was having a come apart. luckily this happened on hill.... so i stopped got out, told him to not get close to the wall and he'd be okay. it was like 15 ft tall in the center. i went around him and showed him how much clearance i had and thus he followed.

sorry i have too many details i have no idea how to be short. lol. anyway after that i called fm and told her the situation, and she thought it was happening right that second and that i might not be able to clear the tunnel. after i kept trying to explain this to her and her not understanding it happened earlier in the day, i finally said YES GO MEASURE THE ####### TRUCK!!!! so she did... hehe. this happened in my first two weeks with them. she liked to call everyday like my mother and ask how i was doing, and if i got food and a shower, and if i was happy. after those two weeks, we rarely talked until she chapped my ###.

Right now you need to just worry about getting a good trainer and also making it through the orientation. Do some research, stick it out and go from there. Atleast get 4 months -1 year in and figure out if they are right for you.
