I wear a pair of 'hiking sandels'.... rubber sole, covered toe, strap around the heel... easy to slip on and off .... boots are right behind the seat for those cold days or wet days...

I thought those were for those sweatpant, too-small-a-shirt wearing drivers who no longer can bend over to tie their laces.

Good point, but the OP question was is it against the law?

Another website, Edmunds.com that is all about cars and driving. They have a myth's page, >>here<<

    From that page, the following...

[h=1]Traffic Ticket Urban Legends[/h] [h=2]Busting Myths That Mislead New Drivers[/h]
    3. The "Driving While Barefoot" Law: The claim is that you can be ticketed for driving barefoot. However, there is no state that regulates proper footwear for operating a motor vehicle, with the exception of Alabama, where it is prohibited to drive a motorcycle while barefoot. Several states, though, explicitly recommend, but do not mandate the use of shoes while driving.
