If you are someone that enjoys being home but understand that work is something we all gotta do too pay the bills, I'd look at a 6/3 as soon as one comes open. You get a great balance. I've been on the schedule for 11 of my 12 years with Wal-Mart.It's perfect. I've done the 5/2, for me it just felt that just as I was adjusted to being home it was time to go back on the road, not good.

With the 6/3 there is no extending the work week. I'm not so sure 5/2, 5/3 falls into extensions either. You have to have the truck back for the next driver, remember.

The 5/2, 5/3 had not been around that long at too many locations. The programs come under scrutiny if the drivers don't run them properly. That happens often on the 6 day programs where drivers aren't managing their time effectively and are always off the road a day early. Sort of messes up the operations plan if too many drivers aren't available when they were expected to be.

I haven't heard any bad talk about the 5/2, 5/3. FOR ME, the two day weekend just wouldn't be enough downtime as I have a 3 hour drive to the house.

Give it time though, you'll definitely enjoy the work and your home time well be quality time because of the stress free environment on the job.

    Enjoy.

Update, 5/2 5/3 program drivers are not on extended work weeks. You can if you want to get into another truck though that is not on your program and there is one available.

Hello to everyone. Hope your week is going well,

Has anyone out there left a home everyday driving job to go and drive for Walmart? If so how well did you and your family adjust to you being gone for 5 days?

Harb, I left an LTL job that I had been at for 18 years, to go to Walmart.

I did wait until my kids were grown and out of the house. My wife and I have adjusted fine, it is a great place to work. FYI, I am on a 5-2/5-3 program.

braceface...can you explain more how the 5/2 5/3 works? Also if you could explain exactly what your start and end times are. My wife and I are really confused, also how long have you been at Walmart and is the first year money really as good as it sounds? We are just trying to get all the info we can to make this life changing decision. Also what dc are you out of? I would be out of Greencastle Indiana if I choose to accept the offer.
    Thanks

i was on the 5/2 5/3 for a bit. you share 2 trucks with 3 guys. one week you are in truck A work 5 on 2 off the next week you are in truck b run 5 on 3 off. i had a 10 am gate time so you can leave between 9am and 11 am. i always prefered to leave at 9. i would get done on my 5th night between 8 and 10 pm. if you done the same you would be off from 10pm your fifth night have 2 full days off return the next morning at 9 am. the next week get off at 10pm be off 3 full days return the next morning. just keeps rotating like that and you do not exstend so thats what you can count on every week,

Thanks mruffin...I suppose a 9 or 11am start time is hard to come by. That would be ideal cuz I would be on the same sleep cycle as the wife. Did you get the choice or was it just how it was set up.

The start time is set at 10am. Policy says you can leave up to one hour early, 9am.

    Harb and mruffin Thank this.
