If you talk to your DM they will help you with idle time if you explain you were in extreme weather conditions.
The idle policy also works in your favor during certain months... if your idle is below 45% they pay you back for it. Doesn't ever amount to much but I have never been charged either. -
Just left May to take the winter off. They have been very good to me, said I have a job when the snowbird wants to return in spring...AND, I got 3 of the $1000 bonuses ($1000 per 20k miles driven) paid out in 6 months....of course, won't have that bonus again. May has been good for me, though.
mattbh23 Thanks this. -
Do you not restart the bonus when you are rehired? Or get to start a whole new $5000 bonus since you are being rehired?
-
I doubt that, but it sure would be nice! I guess it won't hurt to ask.

jomar68 Thanks this.

Nope, I am just a driver. I had a legitimate question that got answered. May is not anywhere near perfect. My biggest bone is that they allow almost zero bobtailing. Every other company I worked for let me take the truck home. But the $5000 bonus is real.

May is a good place to get your feet wet, but not a great fit for an experienced driver. Just know what you are getting in to. -
About fuel and route. Yeah, they are big on going where the cheap prices are. Not a big deal to me. I would do the same. About routing, please tell me of any big company that does not route you. They all do! Unless you are an O/O or work for a small outfit, they all route you.
I will admit that I really like May. This was a surprise to me. I do feel loyal toward them and will stick up for them. One thing that worried me for awhile was that I would get ripped off by payroll--some companies make mistakes with drivers' paychecks, mistakes that are never in the driver's favor--but May payroll was very honest. I hate a company that steals from driver's paychecks.
Oh yeah, and May is probably the best place for a newbie to start: highest pay for newbies I ever saw, and also a $4000 retention bonus for staying a year. Am I making a sales pitch for May? Kinda. But only because I found them to be good to me. I am not getting a penny for this! (If I thought May was a crap company, believe you me, I would make my complaints known!) -
Bry, efon was a trainer at May. He knows how the system works there 😏
