I graduated from CDL A school with all endorsements except passenger about 9 months ago.

I just lost my job and I really dont have much going on (no GF, no job, not in school).

Im interested in maybe trying to get some experience (6 months-1 years) OTR so I can come home and get a local job!

The only concern I have is going it the gym. Im an avid gym goer, who goes to the gym 5 days a week and likes to take care of himself. I dont go heavy anymore, but I would like to stay in shape!

Is it possible to be an OTR Driver (temporarily that is) and hit the gym 5 days a week (about an hour a day)???

Showers are easy to come by, you can find them at 99% of truck stops. A gym is going to be harder to find. You cant just easily park a truck and 53 foot trailer in the parking lot of Gold's Gym, or even walking distance to one. Some truck stops may have a workout room but they will be few and far between.

Try knocking on doors and you just may land a local job. Happens every day.

Roehl and Schneider have flexible work schedules.

Schneider has lots of dedicated accounts and some of those are home every day or almost every day. They put new drivers on those accounts.

Showers you can do 1 every day or every other day. GYM is #### near impossible. Your better off doing body weight stuff and bring a dumbbell or two.

With that being said there's going to be times where you're no where near a truck stop or anything for that matter. I did see a guy in New Jersey. He had a bicycle and somthing to hold the tire up of the ground me he just petteled outside in front of his truck. He was so sweaty Oma and guess what this pilot was very small it's right by the Ny/jersey boarder. By 87 doesn't have showers so that guy was defiantly pissed after that lol

It's probably best for you to find a local gig. It's not impossible to find. Try your local Beer and Soft Drink companies, you could also try Lowes, Home Depot, local lumber yard/mills, logging companies, sod and turf farms, construction/heavy equipment rental, so on and so forth.

A few truckers work out in their truck and then take a shower. If you are making real money you will be working so many hours per week that you will not feel like exercising sometimes!

You wont have the time to go to a gym daily when your otr. You can carry some dumbells in the truck and a curling bar.

Forget about staying in shape. As a truck driver, you are doomed to being fat and out of shape. Just kidding ! Anyway, it's a lot harder to work out on the road. You need to be at a gym at the time you have available. As mentioned, gyms at truck stops are few. And most gyms require you be a member, so stopping by LA fitness as you're cruising by won't work. So, improvise, work out in or near your truck. Or, lump a load of canned dog food from a 53' trailer……that will burn a few calories.

I have located gyms in cities I deliver to that are within walking distance from the truck stop. Only so far have Edmonton and calgary Alberta and Toronto Ontario. Generally when i am loaded after a full days work and taking my 10 hour break all I have time for is shower eat and sleep. If anything I might walk or jog a mile or two. It is easier to stay somewhat healthy on the road by avoiding the 90% of "food" available.

You might be surprised about getting a local job right off the bat. A friend of mine just did that. Truck drivers are in high demand right now. All they can do is say no.
