He was smart enough to know to ask. Not knowing , just means some one has not taught them yet.
Truckingbiker, Hammer166, stabob and 2 others Thank this. -
You are right as well.

Yea just bought it a day or two ago, but wasn't sure how it worked. Thanks for the info got it pumped up, had a big piece of steel in tire. You can't know everything when you start, so you learn as you go.
"semi" retired Thanks this. -
Any day you do not learn at least one thing , is a wasted day. Never be afraid to ask. Every one would rather you ask , then see you intercourse something vertically. Best of luck.

I remember how I learned....and it wasn't in school. I hooked the lines up backwards (by the way...the blue one is not ALWAYS on the inside, and the glad hands aren't ALWAYS painted) in the winter time, and of course the trailer was locked up. So I'm crawling under this thing with a small Maglite in my mouth, and hammer in hand, beating on drums for about a half hour in below zero weather and 18 inch snow drifts, before I decide to start experimenting with the lines. Swap them around, worked like a charm....lesson learned. From that point on, White Dog checked the lines FIRST.
There is always a first time. Back then we didn't have cell phones, or QualComm, and definitely didn't have the capability of jumping on a message board for advice. You spent as much time as you had to in order to figure stuff out...or you walked to the nearest phone.Truckingbiker, "semi" retired and Starboyjim Thank this. -
Excellent, White Dog, don't feel bad, I did the same thing.
-
Who's to say those shoes weren't frozen to the drums anyway, White Dog, Semi?
-
That's true, but I've had wagons with mixed up glad hands, (RR wagons were the worst) and no colors, ( or both red, or both blue) and I never had all 4 brakes freeze, usually 1 or 2,(not to say it couldn't happen) Before I started banging away ( besides, you should be able to see a little clearance between the shoe and the drum) I'd switch the lines 1st.
-
Heck, I was so "green" that I really didn't know what I was doing or what to look for; so I just started trouble-shooting. If they WERE froze (I was too), trust me...I beat the daylights out of them. LOL! Whatever I had to do.
