Yes, a flashlight will do. You must do a PTI when you are about to start your shift.
So get your self a very good light at that.
Too many others had fun with you on that, so I will refrain from doing the same. (this time)

Yeah well. You're one of the monsters who wants to get him. I'll be staying away from you and your artificial light sources.

Use a bright headlamp and you can use the fuel island if it's not crowded. Some fuel islands have air too if your tires need a few pounds. Just be resourceful.
Mr Ed Thanks this. -
Be sure to wear your tin foil cap, or I'll eat your brains!Mr Ed and joseph1135 Thank this.

That is of course, if the air lines haven't been torn out by a careless trucker. I can't say when (I was Long Haul), I ever pulled into the fuel island and actually saw a working air hose. Usually a trip to the garage was in order.

Yeah. I just use my own glad hand setup. But your right. Very rare to find a working setup. I've been meaning to get a gauge with a shrader valve to test outlet pressure before wasting my time.G.Anthony Thanks this.

You mean youre supposed to pti at night too ? Not just take a wizz and fly down the road. Sometimes I make sure lights and breaks are good. Then check the other things when sun comes up. If there's an engine problem it may not show up in a pti anyway, like a turbo issue.

Honestly, Get a head lamp and a good (surefire) flashlight.
MPLepton1 Thanks this. -
Don't listen to them, 2ndAct, all the rabble-rouser's got in on this one. After all, it is the "Questions from new driver's" part, so any question is cool, no matter how silly it may sound to some. After a while, you'll find the "pre-trip" is highly over rated. Get a bright flashlight, do a quick walk around, if nothing is hanging, flat, or leaking, GET GOING!
ramblingman Thanks this. -
The only time you will do a real PTI is getting your CDL .
Here in the real world you do a walk around and look for big stuff like flats or parts dragging .
It is just one of them things like double clutching that you do to meet the test answer they want not the real life way it is done .G.Anthony, tucker, "semi" retired and 1 other person Thank this.
