I actually enjoy the monteagle run. Given the option I'll request it from my dbl...
Only one that gave me a minor case of "oh h***" was Tn 8 headed east. Nice 8% grade there but it's only for a couple miles and pretty straight.ncmickey Thanks this. -
Seen it on video.. the tracks left behind .. and a driver standing outside his rig with eyes as big as golf balls yet embarrassed on the grapevine .. north bound.. he made it.. didn't stop to ask questions
-
Monteagle is that one on 24 in Tenn? I went down that one east bound at 79500 the other day...7th gear, full jake, 30 mph all fhe way down and didnt touch the brakes once. Other trucks were blowing by me....lol.... West bound wasnt as bad... but my return load was lighter too....
I go through the NC mountians on 40 and 77, and the WV mountians on 77 all the time. Monteagle is definitely a bigger challenge than those....
Never seen a truck in the excape ramps....but im glad that they are there...... -
Yep, that's headed down i24. Seen other trucks doing the same, my first run down I watched another driver smoke his brakes as the police caught up to him to pull him over...
Ive always been lightweight headed through there, but I don't set my jake brake for that. -
No doubt, it could have been a mechanical problem & no fault of the driver. Amazing at the number of truck drivers that's ready to convict the truck driver of something from reading articles that never gives the details.

Several years back I met a fellow who said he made on trip to the east coast and never would go back again. He said he went down that big steep mountain and an 18 wheeler passed him and he though about letting off the brakes and following him down, but something told him not to.
So he kept just going slow and when he went around the curve at the bottom of the mountain the 18 wheeler that passed him was on its side slid up against the tunnel.
He was the 1st on there and the truck driver was dead. I forget how long he said it took for them to remove the dead drive and truck and trailer.
He told me, "I promised myself if I ever got back to Arkansas and my home town I would never do that again," and he didn't. -
I've noticed a change in speeds of other drivers.. they seem to be rolling slower today then in the past.. or maybe the change is me.. in the past 5 weeks or so there appears to more parking available. to.. what's up that
