Awesome thread! I was wondering about Mcelroy. This answered lots of questions. The guy said there were 10-15 people in each orientation. That seems high to me. Is there a limit on who they hire or are you in good assuming you have a good attitude and work ethic? Also I heard they do not have inverters. Not a big deal but time in the sleeper would be better with a tv.

Another thumbs up for McElroy
For your first week of orientation in Pleasant Hill, get ready to be PUNished by Brent Roberson. You'll learn a lot and be entertained with his quick wit.
First week is mostly videos, testing, physicals, road test and a taste of securement.
Second week, you'll spend a lot of time on the yard backing through various skill tests ( parallel , 45 and serpentine backing) and extended road test. Lots of trip planning and more videos and tests.
Next you're with your trainer for 4 weeks before one last week of training in Cuba AL where you'll pick up your truck.
They've raised pay to .46 cpm and have 75-125 minimum pay for shorter runs. Not a bad gig. -
Seems a bit excessive if for experienced drivers. -
This is just for new guys right out of school....2 weeks orientation 4 weeks with trainer and then 1 week in cuba al. 7 weeks total and they pay 100.00 per day while training. You are home every weekend even during training.

As you mentioned, the training is rapid and intense. Just wanted to WARN NEW RECRUITS THAT THE ORIENTATION IS MORE LIKE A SELECTION PROCESS. During classroom instruction, the "trainer" is constantly evaluating you. He may call on you to test your understanding or to see if you are motivated to "BE THERE". As a former marine, I have been through extreme training or evaluation, but at least I know in the military what to expect. DO NOT EXPECT McELROY TO TEACH YOU TO DRIVE!!!!!!! Most everything you do in classroom, simulator training, driving and shifting is a PASS/FAIL grade!! On the first day of being asked to drive, I volunteered to be first. Little did I know that I was being watched for every little thing I did incorrect. In driving school, I learned to shift from the feel and sound of the RPM's. Yes, it is important to watch RPMs when shifting. THERE IS NO TIME OR WANTING TO TAKE TIME TO WORK WITH YOU AS A STUDENT!! BE FORWARNED. As I said, if you are not selected in the first few days by the "trainer" , you will climb an uphill battle to PASS any skills test they throw at you. For example, after failing my initial driving run (I was not told I would be getting a PASS/FAIL), I similarly attended a simulator demonstration (again I did not know I was being graded for PASS/FAIL). While using the simulator, I was told more than once by the "trainer" , "good job". Later that same week, I had been singled out to be eliminated, and found that I had tested FAIL on the simulator also. Unbelievable place. Cameras everywhere, and judgement from the day you walk into the classroom. The recruiter promised weekends off and stressed how religious the owner is. "NO ONE WORKS ON THE WEEKENDS" . THAT IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE, LIE, LIE!!!!
