Clearly you missed my multiple post so I will refresh your memory.. It's like going around the merry-go-round in this thread....
#1 - As I have CLEARLY stated I have given this driver credit on multiple post, heck I even gave him credit for not losing his temper with the other driver (doesn't look like he gave him too much crap).. I have clearly said he avoided a collision and that is what really matters... I didn't think this board would have had so many narrow minded drivers to the fact that there could have been a better way to avoid the way he maneuvered.. I'll keep that in mind next time and just keep my mouth shut... Too many whiners crying about one guys opinion... I'm sorry for all you who can't notice the 10 second delay, either your naive or can't read time.. Sure he went into another lane that was a good step but he could have also slowed down... I don't care if buddy was looking like he was turning right, If that moron was so stupid to make the move to come out in front of traffic what makes you think he isn't dumb enough to pull the move by going straight thru instead??? Sorry to say if someone makes 1 dumb move then I will assume more dumb moves from same person...
#2 - I have find it funny how some people here are saying things along the lines of "he (me) would probably crash" ... It's funny how I gave to times where I did avoid an accident all together, and minimized another one by slowing down early and seeing a potential problem... So no I don't think I would crash in this situation because I would have moved over and slowed down.. If I find the moron was indeed going right then I would speed back up and continue on my way... At least I know that by slowing down I would have given myself the chance to not have to make an emergency manoeuvre such as the one in the video..
Again I am not down playing this drivers actions.. I am merely saying he could have reacted sooner.. So you can call me a "know it all" or a "Monday morning quarterback" or telling me that "I would have crashed in this situation"... It just shows your ignorance.. I am not attacking you, I am not telling you that you were wrong, I am not even telling the driver in the video he is wrong and I am not downplaying him... I am not as single minded as some of you clearly portray yourselves as...
With that I am done posting here... Cause it is obvious that most of you will not recognize the wasted 10 seconds where more could have been done.. If this was me in the drivers seat and then I seen this video of myself.. I would 100% tell myself I did a good job of avoiding a collision but I also would be able to criticize myself and see where I could improve in reaction time.. It doesn't hurt to try to better what you have done...
So again I am out.. I am done dealing with this.. The guy did a good job he avoided a collision, he kept his cool with the other driver from what it seems in the video.. The other guy is 100% at fault as skateboardman said he "screwed the pooch" plain and simple... Don't mistake my opinion for something it's not... My opinion doesn't change how I feel about the moron who pulled out with the doubles nor does it change the fact I think this guy still did a great job at not hitting the guy... -
New big truck driver here for preface reference. I believe the point Gov trucker is making is akin to the mindset needed when driving a motorcycle. Assume NO ONE sees you and drive accordingly. I don't believe Gov Trucker is being disparaging towards the driver in the video. I think he just offering additional perspective. My experience driving a motorcycle tells me the second I identify the double approaching the roadway I'm using I expect the worst and immediately engage defensive driving. I liked the lane change. Without dash video you cannot tell if the driver slowed but I would slow expecting the double to cross my lanes and turn left. My point being the double was a potential hazard as soon as he's visible. Gov Trucker is simply pointing out its never too early to begin protecting yourself.

great save, and good control for not teaching the b train a lesson.

Wow! As I watched that video I was waiting for something to happen. I was reacting as if I were the driver of the red Pete. Thinking about what was going to happen. I realized that he still had too much speed as he was getting closer. I was even looking for a way out of the situation as the driver was. A very good video to help with how to handle situations and how to learn from other peoples real life experiences.

Wow! Who'd have thought that in Saskatchewan, the truck drivers are as bad as the four wheelers?

great save, i think the delay in reaction was because he thought he was turning right, i watched the video and he breaks and goes oh ####, about the point you can tell the nitwit is actually going straight. right or wrong after watching the video a few times, i don't know that i would have plowed the breaks much sooner. either way nice save. and he had more self control than i would have, if the words out of his mouth were anything other than a apology i think i would have been dragging the guy out of the truck.
Dna Mach Thanks this.
