Any advice for a newbie?

Not a newbie....ROOKIE

 

Those two words are synonymous to each other.

 

No newbie 0 to 1 year, rookie 1 year to 4 year, truckdriver 4 years and up.

Newbie is a word for truckers who feel offended by the word "rookie".... My advice is GET OVER YOURSELF. Lots of industries proudly imbrace the term "rookie". Its not an insult.

 

I've always considered a newbie to be someone just learning the industry ... someone who may not even have their cdl yet. I would think that you are newbie until the day you are actually being compensated for driving. At that point you would be a rookie.

I'm not sure why it would need to be discussed though. It seems like a fair number of people feel as though they are elevating themselves above the crowd by labeling and discouraging those with less experience. Newsflash: you are still just a truck driver. You may be a GREAT driver, you may have 50 years experience behind the wheel, but you're still just a driver. There are thousands of newbies and rookies entering the industry every year and thousands of people leaving. That cycle won't stop any time soon either.

Maybe somebody could actually offer the guy some advice?

 

Unless you currently live near an oil producing area I recommend you hold off a while. Oil prices are tanking and a slow down of unknown severity and length is on its way.
