Yeah, today I picked up a load that weighed "1750 lbs" on crossroads. It was "34250 lbs". Only reason I even booked the load because it was supposedly light. So yeah, even if they put a number in that seems accurate instead of the 40000 lb fill in the blank number it's still bound to be wrong anyways.
And definitely #6. Old source system used to have "by", "on" and "at" delivery times. Currently the "at" times are obvious. However, the "by" and "on" appointments are just unknown and too often instead of the order entry people putting in the entire delivery window they just put in the 24 hour period on one day with no specification if you can go in early. Save everyone a lot of time and save the phones by simply letting us know if they are "by" appointments or if they have to arrive in a certain window. Or at the very least put notes in the remark section if they aren't going to do it on the load screen.
I also don't like some of the discrepancies between the times on the load board and the times on workflow. You'll book a load with certain appointment times (whenever there is a pick up window) and when you get the assignment on workflow the times are totally different.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with some of those issues. I think they think it's ok to throw 40k out as a generic weight that just means heavy. There is a big difference in trying to scale 40k and trying to scale 43k that isn't loaded right, etc...
The MCP messages on crossroads would be great! Especially because that would mean we could respond using a real keyboard, etc.... and I park a couple miles away from my house, it would be nice to not be at home wondering if I need to go by the truck.
I also intend to bring up detention pay. There are places that are absolutely taking advantage of the fact they have 6 hours before they have to worry. I had one load where for 9.75 hours of detention I got a whopping 75 bucks. thats $7.69 an hour. It's insane. Whats even worse is that it was supposed to be a drop and hook. The last company I worked for billed $75 an hour after 4 hours. I'm not saying ours should be that high.... but 25 an hour seems reasonable. I think they should have 2 hours grace period at most on a drop and hook, and 4 hours on a live load. It's hard to run a business that is so schedule oriented, when the shippers and receivers have little motivation to keep schedule.stevep1977 Thanks this. -
Standard detention pay generally starts after 2 hours. That's what company drivers are paid based on. You're assuming here that Schneider doesn't charge the customer for detention until after 6 hours, when it is quite possible they really are charging them after 2 hours but aren't paying us until after 6 hours. Just sayin...
And it depends on the customer. Some won't pay detention (walmart), other do. Schneider pays us regardless if they do or don't pay. I don't know what to say about this, for me personally I haven't had many issues with this personally in the 3+ months I've been doing this. Maybe 3 or 4 times total where I had to sit 5 to 8 hoursKenworth #1 Thanks this. -
You can bet any company charges detention when a truck is sitting.
They usually give 1 hour and then the timer starts.
I don't like how detention pays works with choice..too many hours go by before we get anything.
Time IS money as we all know.mike101402 Thanks this. -
The NAT/NAL is coming back to crossroads sometime in February, maybe.

I was getting $50 per hour after the first 2 hours and that was in 1993. Should at least be $90 after the first 2 hours. If I run 60 miles @ $1.50/mile in a hour that's $90 I'm loosing every hour I sit there. I'm willing to give the 2 hours but no more than that. And it shouldn't matter if we are percentage or mileage. We're still being held up. SNI still trys to charge the customer after 2 hours. That's why they want us to put down the in and out times on the bills.mike101402 Thanks this.

I've always tried to wrap my head around the reason SNI has different time periods before detention kicks in for choice (percentage) ICs vs. mileage. The only thing that I could possibly figure was that it would make it much more difficult for choice ICs to constantly book loads to and from places they KNOW they would receive "easy" detention from (Black and Decker, C&S, etc.), and work it to their advantage making it an easy way to make a few bucks when they want to sit and not drive. However, IMO it shouldn't matter - SNI should never receive a penny of that detention money - the driver should. But, you know, it is what it is. That's why I just avoid those places I know are going to be slow to get in and out of.mike101402 Thanks this.

I'd still avoid those places no matter how much they paid. I don't like sittin around. Now my brother on the other hand, would be all over that.mike101402 Thanks this.

Please bring up the breakdown/recovery charge. $400 is totally crazy especially if you are able to get the load into an OC. I've had 4 breakdowns with 4 recoveries (long story) in the last 6 weeks. It's bad enough that we are down with repairs and no money coming in and then they zing you $400 each time. They say it costs them with having to repower but I bet you that the ICA/planner and the recovery driver doesn't see a dime of that money in their weekly check. The charge was the one thing that stuck in my craw back when I read the contract during orientation. It's highway robbery.
