What type of tanker?
-
I'll have all my endorsements including hazmat so the material really matters not me. Just looking for a good company to get some experience out if school....even if tanker hauling isn't a viable step, but it's my end goal.

Schneider bulk
Prime tanker division
I really dont think there are any others if there are i will quit where im at now and go. Im not happy here. -
Schneider doesn't have a tanker dispatch in California, that was my first choice. Looking at some job listings I've found several tanker positions but require 1-2 years experience. Of the available "student" accepting companies....western express, falcon transport, and top gear transportation. But I really haven't heard these names mentioned much if at all, so I really have experience with what kind of companies they are.

Look around your local area... Some small companies might give you a chance. The kind of companies I'm talking about don't have recruiters ....
Get a copy of your driving record and a resume and knock on some doors...... -
I dont live in California yet. Business opportunities are better out there...and if I can get a solid trucking job and have the security of a steady check, it'll make business plans easier to execute. I gotta take a trip out there for a week to gauge several markets so I may do just that. Any more suggestions and ideas are welcome too. Thanks guys!

I think you need to do some more research into tankers. You're on the right track but the reason I asked what type of tankers because they differ so much. Gasoline hauling is most of the time local and most of the time they want experience ( not impossible to get work without exp. but harder), Chemicals are out of town a lot of time are dedicated route and they want the best but some will teach. Milk would be much different because your driving a smooth bore. It goes on and on so just for you to know you should refine your goal down into more areas. Do you want OTR? Do you want dedicated? or do you want local. Don't just take any old job to meet your end goals. At least stay within the field so you build your experience all towards where you want to retire from. You're doing the right planning and it's good to see someone in school taking the time so there'll be no surprises. Maybe if you could PM me with your ending goal I could help more. I hope what I've given makes sense to you and will help. Good luck.

I don't know of any right out of school but if your patient in time the doors will open. It's great that u have your eye set on something specialised, I've been a tanker for about 2 years now and love it.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to moving out to California, I have a lot of research to do first though not just for trucking. Where I live is going to be a critical decision. I've never been to California, and needless to say...I don't know the area. Lol.
