1 week in orientation, 1 or more weeks with the mentor. Depends on how fast you can pickup on everything.

That depends on the DC you will be going to. Should call them and ask what the pay is.

    THANK YOU, NINETOFIVE !!!

THANK YOU, TomOfTx !!! Yes, he actually enjoys OTR. Nothing tickles him pinker than a 6-700 mile day!

We are on the Shoreline -- Groton, right across US 12 from the Subase. Oh, he has no preference for sticking strictly to New England -- he loves going anywhere! The Raymond location is closest to us. Since he will be commuting that is a concern for us as we have only one vehicle -- a 2004 F150 -- and it's a real pig when it comes to fuel. So he's babbling something about finding a small, more efficient car for that. That's another can of worms we'll just have to figure out.

He is fine with any of that, really -- whatever it takes to get him in is OK by him. He is very much a team player and believes in the Golden Rule: "He who has the gold makes the rules."

Brian is also fine with that. He says he would just as soon shut the d@mn thing off all day!

Thanks for all the greatinfo, ninetofive!!!

Yes, the commuting issueis looking like a real pain. We have a small Walmart here in Groton, and there's another in Norwich and a SuperCenter in Waterford, both nearby communities. However, just parking at one of those for a single overnight break wouldn't help the off-time commute thing.

Working weekends is OK with him if that is what it takes to get in the door. The phone rules are fine with him, as well. He would be just as happy with it shutoff all day!

You're welcome. Don't let the commute discourage you. I drive about an hour and a half to get to my DC. We have some guys that drive 3 hours or more to get to work and 1 guy that drives 7 hours!!! I know in your part of the world it may be difficult at certain times of the year, but it'll be so worth it in the long run!! Good luck. I wish you guys the best!!

Seven hours one way -- omigosh, I'll stop whining now, LOL !!!

We will have to figure something out as we only have one vehicle and it's a gas pig. He is babbling about spending "a few grand" to pick up a small, dependable, fuel-efficient 4-WD vehicle for the commutes (is that even possible???). As competent as Brian is, I have to tell you that it worries me to death thinking of him scurrying around New England -- Land of Ice That Never Thaws Completely -- in a little car. He will be at the mercy of all the idjits on those icy roads! Bad enough that he is out there in the big rig, but I trust that more than I do a small vehicle.

Makes me kinda wish that he would choose another DC that might not send him into upper New England ...

The company he is with now is fixing to start training him on gas starting tomorrow -- and I gotta tell you, I would rather he commute to Walmart anywhere than suicide jockey that fuel through these icy mountains!!!

With his time out here on the road, he will be fine even with the commuting. Wal~mart is very understtanding when it comes to safety and weather. He is more than qualified to hire on here. Good luck to him! If you have anymore questions just go ahead and ask. Any one of us can help you!

^^^^^ Thanks very much, Matt! That's good to know about the weather.

Brian is native to this neck of the woods and has driven it in all weather conditions for many years, so he doesn't worry a lick about it, ever! He does watch the weather carefully for closings and such, however, so it's not like he's ignoring it. Weather simply doesn't concern him -- I probably worry enough for both of us about that.

I actually have lots more to ask you guys ... Right now I am having an issue trying to find an application. But I don't want to clutter up this great, excellent, terrific, inspired thread with such trash -- I'll just start a separate one.

Thanks for all of you guys !!! :biggrin_25514:

^^^^^^^^ Right now I am having an issue trying to find an application

Go to driver4walmart.com - find the DC you want to apply to - click on OTR driver on that line and it'll take you to a job description page - at the top and bottom of that page will be an apply for job tab - click on that and it will begin the application process - just follow the prompts.
