small shovel usually does the trick around the area you are chaining up at.
but the point that was I making is all the sludge that's dripping off the bottom of the trailer right above the wheels, where you have to reach your arms under to connect the links, makes a big mess and gets all over your arms and chest area of your jacket or coveralls, so just use your squeegee and wipe it all off. less messy. that way when you get back in your cab of your truck and take off your jacket or coveralls, you aren't dragging in the salt, snow, ice, sludge, slush, grime with you.
still gotta wash my coveralls and winter jacket from the last chain up. -

Here is a question. Would you rather use chains or the new Snow Sock. I gotta tell you guys I ran the snow socks last year coming out of salt lake city and they work just as good if not better than chains. took me a whole 6 mins to put them on and get rolling. weigh less than 5 lbs for a set. But just as chains ya gotta run slow but you don't risk tearing up you truck if they break and start taking out flairing... check them out but of course they are not legal in California...lol

Chains. Socks tear up too easily.X-Country Thanks this.

If those socks are anything like foot socks.....when you wash them....will one magically disappear?

^^^^ and pack enough supplies for a 3 day trip.
You know what they say.. if it's not DOT approved.. they're not in cali.
So I've heard, the socks will run you up on the ice while the chains will dig in it
Just like losing undies when staying over at your mother in law's...
