Is being a trainer worth the money? How is the pay as first year trainer?

So me and co-pilot are now In the reefer division at covenant. So far the miles have been a lot better than dry van. We already had three 2000mile loads in a row. Dry van is alright but I definitely wanted to learn and try something new. The miles on the dry side were ok, but a lot of 1000mile and under runs. Reefer trailers so far appear to be in better condition than a dry box.

Really like being able to keep the same trailer with these live loads and unloads. Don't mind the wait times to get loaded&unloaded...usually just take a nap or play with phone. For some strange reason the reefer running constantly doesn't bother me.

So far enjoying the reefers with covenant...only been a week though so we'll see how it all works out

Thanks for keeping me up to date on Covenant, seen them around for years and even think one of their drivers lives in this area. Anywho, I drive local now and I hate it....love the pay, but hate the mudaness per say...miss the adventures of the open road. Been trucking almost 3 years and I survived two years at my beginning company.

Anyway any info on Covenant would be helpful. I see you have the option to be solo or team, how are the solo runs and do they cover all 48 states or do teams see all 48? How does past incidents come into play when they hire? I think that's all for now and I will continue to follow the adventures of you all be safe.

I've been out since the 13th with a trainer. Can't say he's a fantastic trainer or anything but try to just get my time in and go. Seem to keep having issues and getting delayed such as no appointment time that set us a day back. 2 days after I took a 34 hour reset mind you. But hope they keep us running steady to new years and beyond because I need to get off this student pay. It will happen one of these days. It just sucks because I was all for running during Christmas but it just turned out I was off! Just in the wrong state and no way to get home.

I wish I could give You a lot more info about the solo opportunities at covenant. But I don't know too much about the solo side here at covenant. One of my buddies was solo for awhile because he lost his codriver. He told me they gave him good miles as a solo driver but the pay wasn't as great as team.

That's sucks, just hang in there and you'll make it. My co driver had a horror story with his trainer. However his trainer no longer works with covenant. She got fired or something like that.

We had a few solid runs and back on another 34 hour reset. Hoping to hit another hard week here once we get off of the break. Sooner I get out of here sooner I can see my wife and make more money. Yea I figure stick as a team for a while here at covenant. It's not so bad. Think I'm about a 150 hour mark or so. Needs to being it in on the home stretch hard.

Looking back at 2014, definitely proud of myself for making it this far with covenant. Been with this company for 8 months and I'm still rolling.

I originally intended to be a company sponsored driver with central refrigerated(free schooling.)however Central set me up with a lousy trainer and let me go for not passing the road test. I had a bad experience with central refrigerated... They basically let me go and had to pay back central $3000 for schooling.

So here I was at the beginning of 2014 looking for another company to start over again with. Paid back central refrigerated the $3000 after being let go so I could train at another company. I applied to a lot of companies but most did not call back or want to hire me. My last choices were werner, may trucking, and covenant transport.I did research on covenant and definitely read negative reviews. I decided to ignore the negative and try to make a positive experience with them.I Also liked the incentives covenant had for their student drivers.

My experience with covenant has been great so far. Definitely not a horror story as portrayed in some of the other negative reviews. Except with my last codriver, that was not fun. In General I try to stay positive so that helps when #### does hit the the fan.

I'm home on time the day I request it, Came home for thanksgiving and Christmas last year in 2014. Covenant does really makes sure to get everyone home on the holidays.

I made a decision in 2014 to come with covenant and now I'm happy here, looking forward to 2015.

Are you having to take a 34 hour restart because you have no hours?

I had like 7 hours left. And also we are in PA. And they say there are no short runs coming out of there. Thus we would run out in the middle of our next run
