I would definitely fight the ticket, call drivers legal or attorney that knows the laws for commercial drivers, good luck

And cops in NY wonder why their some of the most hated cops in the country. I feel bad for the good ones because it seems 90% of them are worthless douchebags. I would call a lawyer ASAP and file a complaint against the officer for the way you were treated. Don't let them get away with that crap.

Another reason for a dash cam. It would have recorded the conversation while at your truck. The treatment and him trying to get you to admit you knowingly broke the law is a he said/he said deal to the court, without proof. And of course a judge will take the cop's word over a civilians word. Just my two cents....

About a third of my tolls get tagged to my license plate instead of my transponder. (They are right about interior units having issues with steel visors) I never been pulled over by anyone for it. If I did I'd do what the OP did...idk how I'd comeback from "it's a fake etc"

thats a sad set of events right there OP idk if your even need a lawyer so much as a copy of the last couple ezpass statements mailed in with a not guilty plea, an explanation and a duplicate of the complaint you should file. F that, handcuffed over a toll? And held for an hour in the back of the cop car? Not acceptable.

That su*** and the port auth can bust your balls big time. I would hire a man to fight it and give that cop a scare to treat people better.

I have been lucky when mine has not worked in my SUV it was at a gate so they had to come over and check it out and take down the numbers and send me on my way. It has always worked on the return trip or other tolls so it was their equipment in that lane. The pass also has to be replaced every few years.

What always made me laugh when in a SUV they would say the pass had to be mounted to the top of windshield not on the dash but my dash is higher than most cars top of windshield. They also have one that bolt to the front plate that is really low!

BTW there have been news reports on TV of trucks doing just what you were stopped for. 1 guy had a string he would pull that flipped up his plate till thru toll.
    Good luck

did it occur to take the transponder back and see if it would read??? the usual procedure at a ny toll booth if the doesn't turn green is the toll taker ,if a manned booth, takes down the transponder info .

first off , get the license plate in the correct place. sometimes you create your own problem.
