Im hopping it'll slush up at least. I THINK I would be allowed to roll on in that situation. The load picked up in California on Christmas Eve and today is day number 4 in grand junction. I'm headed into upper michigan so I've got another 1700 miles to go. Good thing is I'll miss the holiday curfews in Indiana so I guess that worked out.

That would have been a little further out of the way then we like to get from the looks of it. And more permits to buy. But we didn't anticipate this part either so lesson learned is the best summary I can come up with.

Correction...i40 was only an extra 53 miles and same amount of permits should have went that way.

Last time I was out there Az. and NM were cheap permits. 40 is way easier on you and the truck. I would talk to some experienced hands and get some input next time.
I don't know anyone that uses 70 unless there is a really good reason. And it's not like I have never made a poor choice in my career. In the winter months I used to drop down to 10 & 20 to stay out of the weather. 70 is not the way to go to Mi. anytime of the year.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm still getting the hang of over the road. I'm used to oilfield work so this is all a learning process. I didn't think to check into the route since I didn't buy the permits but next time I will try to be more of a help from my end. How long would you say it took you to really get the hang of otr?

When you start rolling be sure you check the mountain holiday traffic curfews on your permit, there will be times you can't travel between Eisenhower tunnel and Denver. I live in Denver and refuse to run that way with a permit load in the winter. Good Luck

Oh and make sure your permits haven't expired if you have been sitting for 3 days

Thanks rontonio. I've been reading all about it today lol. New permit was purchased but it too expires at midnight. So they all have to be repurchased.

When I started I worked for someone who had been in it for 15-20 years. You get 5 years of otr under your belt you will have a pretty good handle on things. It doesn't hurt to ask for route advice on here if need be. And I know there is not always time for that. You will not forget what you are about to experience. I took a route in Az.40 years ago ,bent wheels, no guard rail with big drop offs, I learned believe me. And I still make mistakes, hopefully not the same ones.
