    Yup. Once you factor in the cost of living in many parts of CA...most of those salaries aren't all that impressive.

    I don't think that sounds very good. Running illegal and working 18 - 23 hours a day. I would rather be paid more and work less hours. Previous generations of Americans fought hard for worker's rights.... I don't want to give that away for a few more dollars.

    The Walmart close to me was hiring recently and they said the average first year driver is $72,000 and it goes up from there working an average 5.5 day week.

    I have conflicting thoughts about that list. At first glance I'm outraged that lazy-### govt. employees can make that much driving a truck. After a little reflection I do notice that all those people are from the Bay Area which has an obscene cost of living. And my third thought is why shouldn't an experienced, safe skilled driver earn that much?

    I find it funny how people are so single minded about Govt employees being lazy (doesn't matter what Country)... That just shows ignorance on your part. So I would like to say I am outraged that people like you still think this way... Times have changed my friend it's not like the old days with the populations getting bigger, camera phones and other social media, politicians getting stricter etc make it almost a non-issue anymore.. Sure you might have departments that are more lax but that doesn't make them lazy, they are still doing the job they were given..

    I am a govt trucker and I work VERY hard at my job... I am go-go-go all day from the time I start to the time I finish.. I don't take breaks and I hardly ever even take a lunch. Since I am local I also am not driving all day long like OTR drivers, I am IN and OUT of both my cab and trailer front door more times then an OTR guy probably is all week (I am not saying OTR guys are lazy, we work 2 different type of trucking)... Oh ya before I forget to mention I pull an open top trailer (aluminum sides, rear doors and a tarp over top) in which gets loaded by ME... So I don't even get a break while being loaded cause I am the guy doing the loading (hence the non stop all day)... I deal with hydraulic oil lines that are dirty sometimes and sometimes they explode which means now I am getting dirty trying to FIX the problem (yes I did say I try to fix the problems, again opposite of lazy)... Anything that I am capable of fixing (even if this means bring tools from home) I will do it even tho I don't have to (we have mechanics but I don't want to wait, I like things done ASAP).. The list can keep going on but I think I have made my point.. So maybe this will give you a little bit of a perspective of govt employees...

    Before you say "That's just how you work" or "there are other govt agencies/employees that are lazy" ... Well let me just say this... There is PLENTY of lazy private sectors works as well (I did once work the private sector).... Who you work for doesn't really define your work ethics, the person themselves are the one in control of work ethics... I work with some people who are lazy, it's not because they work for the CITY it's because that is just who they are...

    Rant Over!!!

    We're talking about company driving positions in this thread and not O/O and IC positions. Some of the numbers thrown around here are completely unrealistic. This is typical industry pay in certain aspects of the industry for a company driver:

    LTL = $60,000 to $130,000 a year.
    Heavy haul/Heavy equipment = $60,000 to $110,000 a year
    Oil Fields = $60,000 to $110,000 a year
    Car Hauling = $60,000 to 90,000 a year
    Cattle Hauling = $30,000 to $70,000 a year

    Ive done LTL and heavy haul. There's money to be made, but it depends on how much you want to work. If you want a personal life, obviously your income will be lower. It also depends on how long you've been with a company. I know of several senior LTL company drivers that make $130,000 a year, but they've been with their employer 20+ years.

    Also, anyone who thinks driving a truck is 'hard work' needs a reality check. The job is easy, and it doesn't matter if you're a government worker or if you drive for a private company. Get off your high horse.
