I've been interested to relocate from S. Texas to CO/WY for sometime now. I only have 19 months experience haulin all oilfield fluids around much of TX and I was hoping to stay where I am until I've got the "golden" 2 years experience.
Last March, as I drove along Hwy 85 on my way to a Williston job fair, I saw many companies with "Hiring" signs up. Although I didn't have time to stop and investigate as I only had 4 days off of work to make the r/t drive from S. Texas.
I'll try to go to Denver this month or next and then take the time to check out the area. Until then I'd be interested to hear what you find out also.

Hey guys, been a busy last couple days here in Greeley. Just so you all know this is the first time ive been in an area like a boom before so im just going off of what i hear and see. Learning as i go in other words. First off there our jobs everywhere for all kinds of trucking. As long as you have a clean driving record and your endoursments your pretty much guaranteed a job. From oilfield, hauling fuel, hauling cattle, ltl freight to food and beverage. My down fall is i would like crude hauling. Only problem no experience. Now there are some companies here who would hire me but as far as benefits, pay, etc its up in the air. As far as crude goes. The top players people talk about are plains and ngl. Hard to get on but both claim there looking for drivers. I put my apps into both just incase. If your an o/o. Everyone talks about itl. They also work with plains here. Ive asked every company ive talked to about the drop in oil and if it was a big concern in this area. All of them have said that its alittle slower but there not real concerened about it. And theres plenty of work to keep everyone busy. With that said. One driver said that if for some reason it does get to slow he will just haul gas, or ltl for awhile. Everything in Colorado is nearly right by each other. If you have a cdl you will find something. As far as the town of greeley and surrounding towns. Greeley isnt that bad at all. Its bigger than what peole think and the smell people complain about isnt that bad at all. Loveland is really nice along with fort collins about a 30-40 min drive. And denver is only 45 min south of greeley. Overall its been a good first time experience. Everyone has been real nice and helpfull. I85 is your best bet to find these companies and like someone said earlier. The double clutch cafe at the corner of 34 and 85hwy is full of trucks from all sorts of companies. Ive had good experiences with ll the companies except for one where i thought was very shady but idk the rules on this site to say the name so i wont. Aside from hauling crude. If you want water and sand. Top ones i hear about are Dillions and A&W water. As far as a company that pretty much does everything aside from crude that will give you all the work yoy can handle is Northern Plains Trucking. Real big outfit. All i got so far. The companies that i did apply for say it takes a day or 2 to do a background check and its the end of the yr. So all these companies are swamped with paperwork. Ill let yoy guys know more as the week goes on.
Rodeorowdy, MONT74 and Patt52 Thank this. -
The problem i found with that area was every RV park was full and the ones with a space was limited with all types of rules. One being a 10 year old rv. Here in Texas an RV at that age with 10 or so hours on the generator is still considered new, ha. I drove to Longmont to look at RV parks and got stopped at a "checkpoint" I was like WTF. Everyone getting pulled at roadblocks are normal there i guess.
Housing should be considered when scouting the job prospects. -
I was going to check that area out last spring but got sidetracked here in Texas. What is the smell you mention...feedlots?
-
It smells like cow manure, Greeley to all the way to the otherside of Brighton. It was even in Longmont. I didnt smell any in Boulder. Might depend on the weather but its noticable.
Patt52 Thanks this.
