Jobs paying over $100,000

I know what you're trying to say, but not sure Winter is the best time of year to say it on a public forum. Just sayin...

 

Winter ain't that bad either. It's a matter of being used to the elements and driving for the conditions at hand. Driving through a blizzard sucks, but I'd rather do that instead of digging ditches on the side of the highway.

If it's the cold temps you're referring too, you can dress up for the cold. There's only so much you can take off in the heat before you get arrested.

 

Trucking isnt hard but there are times you "work hard"
I can say there are still a few occasions where im all sweaty and tired after having to do something. Is it harder than digging the ditches? no but its harder than some idiot working for the govt holding up a stop sign all day making even more money than you.

 

Not that many LTL guys make $100k+. The top seniority guys at top pay scale with the longest linehaul bids do, but those guys either die or retire before they give that job up. Do a little math and you realize just how hard you have to work even under ideal circumstances:

$.55/mi x 600 miles per night x 6 nights a week x 52 weeks = $102,960.

Most line drivers with a "decent" run are usually in $70-80k range. P&D $50-60's range. I was a freight guy for a few years so I have a pretty good idea what guys really make doing it. When I breifly worked for ABF one of the senior guys said he made $1700/week but he was working 5 days a week city at top pay scale plus a Saturday line run to get it.

 

Who is really the idiot..?? The guy holding the sign making more money then you... Or you the guy who apprently knows the guy holding the sig is making more money then you... I think that would make him the smart guy.... Making good money holding a sign (which doesn't happen, not in my city anyhow), not having to drive in all kinds of weather etc... etc.....

Incase you missed my previous post... Govt workers are not lazy people nor do they always make more money then private sector..... Everyone thinks that just because you work for the City you make top dollar etc.. etc.. That is not the case.. I know of jobs that pay higher per hour then what I make.. I drive a 8 axle tractor trailer hauling upwards to 130,000lbs making $27.88/hr... Cement truck drivers here (unionized) make $30+/hr ... I don't know what the benefits or pension are for them. As far as money per hour tho they make more...

So before you think that "high paid" city work is making huge money.. Think again.. Heck I have seen positions posted within my city for jobs like Engineer, Electrician and others that pay less then what the private sector makes.. So no it doesn't always apply that City works make more... The only thing about City work is that you have better job security which is the bonus of being a govt worker... I don't know about all around the globe, I do know within Ontario that isn't really true anymore.... They are trying to push our govt workers and bring in contractors.. So not even job security is secure anymore..

Heck in a few more years I might be having to look for a new job if they keep contracting out divisions within the City Of Toronto...

 

This depends on what you call "hard work". With technology, it's taken some of the work out of it. My job is very paperwork intense, I know guys who despise it as a result, they hate having to keep track of it all. I've had 14 hr local D/H days where my packet at the end of the day is 2" thick and probably 30 to 40 pieces of paper (and god forbid you miss a piece of paper because the lady in the office will make you wish it was only god you were talking to), and I've had days like NYE, my packet contained 4 pages (log, VIR, trip sheet, 1 P.O.D.)

 

During my oilfield days I worked 14-16 hrs a day sometimes more but like a previous poster said it's hell....very poor quality of life and
constant exposure to petrochemicals. Also because we were on an Indian reservation we didn't have to use logs.

 

I see these people standing in construction zones holding a "Slow Down" sign all day in all types of weather. I don't care how much they pay, that wouldn't be work but torture to me. I don't think I could last an hour doing that. LOL

 

I made over $100K when I was driving entertainer buses on my last gig , I was salary pay but also on call 24/7/365 and did more than just drive a bus. I took care of all the maintenance, inside and out, took care of all of their cars, helped manage the flight dept., security, internet security and drove their limo.

When I drove buses for bands, I had a few $1000 days with overdrives, after a certain point, I was making $1/ mile DRIVING the bus.

 

That was a good post up until the last sentence. I am a government worker. I drive for the Post Office, so I work for the federal government.

Why does everyone automatically think that every government worker is lazy? Unless you worked a government job, you have no idea how stressful and exhausting it actually is. I'll invite you to try to keep up with me for a day.

On another note: if someone making $16 an hour is making more money than you, then you NEED to find someone else to drive for. I can come up with a half-dozen employers off the top of my head that'll start you off at $20+ an hour.
