I-196 south/west, mm42 rest area. Got here shortly after 2300, and there were 2 other trucks here.
Ended up being the ONLY truck that stayed at the rest area overnight last night...kinda freaky, actually. It was crazy windy - I was loaded & it was rocking the tank, too...I hate that, because right about the time I get good & comfortable, just drifting off, the air suspension has tried long enough and finally drains the air tanks enough to pop the trailer brakes. That noise jolts me out of a dead sleep, every time. It's not a loud noise, but it is an unexpected noise, INSIDE the cab. I've even gotten used to the air & electrical lines banging against the back of the tractor in high winds (and let me tell you - that freaked me the heck out the first few times - kept popping up to make sure it wasn't someone messing with my trailer!), but the brake thing gets me every time!91B20H8, dieselfuelonly and TennMan Thank this. -
Shouldnt the brake knobs already be out?
-
Only the tractor...trailer brakes freeze. Also, we have (at least these trucks do) a gate in front of our hose connections which, when closed, depresses a plunger that keeps the trailer brakes released. When you drop that gate, it releases the air from the brakes. Many places require that they be able to hear that when you drop the gate (petty, but what can you do?). Doing it that way also allows the trailer tire inflation system and air suspension - I have a lift axle on my trailer - to function, and keeps air to the air-actuated, fail-closed, belly valves...necessary for unloading.
-
If you get a chance micki can you grab a picture of that gate thing? Never heard of it, I'm curious about what it is. Does it basically allow the trailer to stay aired up but keep the trailer parking brakes applied?

Did you pick up in Valliant, OK??
