Hello my name is Jeremy I have a 1998 International 9400 with a Detroit 60 series 12.7L in it, and it won't start and the stop engine light stays on when you turn the key to the off position. Let me start from the beginning truck last ran 2 or 3 months ago when I last parked it. I pulled the batteries out and put new ones in last month took oil pan off because it had a leak at the bottom of it. Put back on changed oil and oil filters. Changed fuel filter. Primed it. Then tried to start died batteries so I charged them and checked for a draw by pulling one fuse at a time. Found it. So I tried starting the truck again and all it does is crack and crack. Oil pressure gauge jumps to 10 then to 0 the whole time I'm cracking. I spray with starting fluid to start it and kept it running on starting fluid for about 20 second and still no oil pressure and it just shuts off. So I checked oil pressure with a manual gauge and I have 48 psi. And fuel pressure is about 70 to 80 psi. So I think it has something to do with electrical problem since the stop engine light stays on after you turn key to off. So please can anyone help me thank you for you'll help. Jeremy

The ECM has an internal batter that may have died. I know Pittsburg Power can change them, not sure of anyone else.

I'm guessing your oil pressure isn't right, so your engine protection system shuts it off.
I'm not familiar with Detroit's, but my Cummins n14 had an oil tube that ran from the side of the oil pan to the block which had to be removed to change the oil pan gaskets. If it wasn't reinstalled correctly your oil pressure is cut dramatically, not good.
Not that Cummins has anything to do with Detroit, the fact that you had the pan off makes me think there's a similar problem.
Don't force it to run with out oil pressure, that'll cost you big time. Better double check your work thoroughly.Fcracer40 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info I talked to my local guy and told him I took all the fuses out to try and find out what fuse controls the stop engine light and none of them turned it off so I started unpluging the wires going to the ecm and it finally turn it off so I asked him if he thinks ecm might be bad he said maybe now I need to find one to use to see if it fixes it before I spend big bucks on one. Thanks again for any help out there.

Yep, something electrical is messed up. The STOP engine light should not be on with the key off. That is light is turned on by the ECM. Something is up with that. Double check all your batteries connections. The ECM will get its main power feed from batteries or the positive post at the starter. Check all that too. There will be main ECM fuses in that power harness.

Thank you I will double check batteries.

your ECM is cooked.See it in this climate a lot.good luck.

ok thanks qualitytruck for intel

Sounds like an ECM issue. Re-check the connections for corrosion, as well as the ECM fuses.

Ok I'm going to check it again in the morning thanks
