A few more tricks I do to maximize my time is drive in the off hours. I typically start 0000-0300. If I get to a meat plant and they are not ready I go on my 10 hour break and I run, as long as load is ready, the minute the break is up. Averaging 3,000 paid miles a week is not easy. The shippers and receivers do not jump up and thank you for showing up. Usually there are many trucks there and you have to wait. The drivers on here who are on E-logs or the ones who have will back that up. To the new drivers this is not an easy industry. The lifestyle and demands of the job are tough. We are the most hated profession in this country. Not only does the public not like us but the police are looking for violations all the time. We get really bad press all the time and lawyers are always looking to put the blame on you for any accident even when the four wheeler is wrong. Your logs better be perfect or you are to blame. The only people who can somewhat understand us id dispatchers as they are hated by us for being the messengers for the company. I hope you all do well but please be realistic in your expectations. If you can average 2,800 miles in your first 6 months that is awesome. Especially if you start this time of year. Snow, ice and other bad weather make it hard to run. There are a lot of unforeseen circumstances that happen and without experience it is hard to deal with. All of us experienced drivers on this thread will try to help you in anyway we can but most of the time you will have taken an action that may or may not be good for you before you even ask us. Sometimes we will all be busy running ourselves but always ask you never know. A decision in 5 minutes could cost you hours or days down the road. Good luck new drivers

Protect your 70 hours cause if you don't you might find your self on a 34 you really didn't want or need

Goodluck with your new victim Jaso, Also depending on where you are going here in Florida expect a good layer of fog in the mornings. Visability on average about 1/2 mile maybe more.

    jaso37 Thanks this.

Jaso where will you be in Florida? George & I are in Kissimmee.

Happy New Year everyone. I pray you have a prosperous, healthy, and good year and are able to spend lots of time with your family.

Dennis, I hope you will continue posting on here. I'm obviously not a driver either. Seems to me we are like family on here. As HTQ said, you have gained much knowledge from asking questions and reading the thread. Besides Cranky was teasing. Bet he's really somewhat of a softy at heart.

Best wishes to each of you in the new year!!!!!

    I am going to Orlando.

Cranky a softy? Needed that laugh

Yes 35 was a little icy but the further south it turned to rain. Looked like a winter wonderland.

3,433 paid miles. Now comes the tough hours. New student in about .5 hours
