I was driving into the town of Carrizo Springs, Tx today and a local police officer swung out behind me. He was sitting on the opposite side of the road clocking me. Paying attention to the officer behind me (knowing all the while I had doing a few clicks over the limit) I turned down a road that was restricted. This is a US highway that has within the past two years been a restricted route. Garmin told me to do it. Yes, it's the truck GPS. Anyhoo, he nailed me with $400 dollars worth in tickets. $200 for the speeding and $200 for being on a restricted route. My question is, are these worth fighting? It seems it's going to cost me upwards of $1000 to get decent representation and what I mean by "decent" is not a subscription trucker lawyer service. Haven't read a lot of positive reviews on those folks. Maybe I should just pony up the cash and take my medicine, after all, I am guilty.
Got my first speeding ticket in in 10 years.....and then some.

yeah I learned the hard way that most Texas towns are real hard about restricted routes. no way to get out of that one. and we all know how much success you have trying to get out of a speeding ticket. I would recommend contacting the courts and making arrangements with them. alot of the time they will give you a deferred judgement meaning you pay the fine and no points come off your record and it won't show up on insurance inquiries. fighting it will just cost you more money in the end.
OPUS 7, skyviper73 and Grumppy Thank this. -
Always fight it! If you can get any of it reduced, it's worth it. $1000 is nothing compared to the damage to your driving record and potential future employment if you decide to change jobs. I know when I worked for PJ Food Service back in 2007, we had a driver get a ticket running down Raton into New Mexico, and he was stuck for two years before he could change jobs. The company told him they understood and not to worry about the ticket, things happen. Well, the company knew they had a driver who couldn't get another job for two years, so of course they didn't care that he got a ticket, they were probably happy he did so he couldn't quit.

That sucks!!! A lot of people around here say fight every ticket but in the end it is up to you. My question is did you turn on the restricted route to get rid of the cop or that was the way you were going anyway?
Dinomite Thanks this. -
I always try to get a better deal whenever I get a ticket.Local attorneys work deals with judges, or even fight the ticket. I have always been glad I did, it has always been worked out to help me, especially when the judge sees you have an exceptional driving record.

It's nothing against you it's about revenue you will pay no matter what you decide to do, i got ticket for been in the left lane for 55 seconds to avoid an accident, i just paid for it nd done with it. local sheriff are just doing their jobs but state trooper will hit you even harder that's why i say fck them.

Im trying to figure that 1 too/......
he said his GPS told him to turn, Was that while the cop was already behind him with lights on? Or was he sweating Bullets and made a 'nervous' turn when the GPS made a noise or sumthin. Who knows
Cop was thinkin. "WOW, I get a 2 for 1 right now!" -
Just a personal opinion, but a local government shouldn't be allowed to restrict a US highway, wether it's to keep trucks out of there town or simply to just generate revenue

I know a lot of people get scared when cops get behind them. Thier first instinct is to pull off on a side street but that makes the cop even more suspicious When a cop is behind me I don't pay them any attention.
Cops know people get nervous when they are behind them and it's a matter of time before they do something stupid and end up with a ticketbubbagumpshrimp and Dinomite Thank this.
