Starting at Nabors

Does anyone have experience going the permit-only-before-hired route when coming from out-of-state? Companies want Texas CDL permits. After searching the Forum, looking at general DL info at the Texas DPS and reading through the Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook, it looks like you can't just show up at DPS, take your written and get your permit. It appears that "..in order to apply for a commercial drivers license" "The driver must reside in the State of Texas". The general DL info says if you want to apply for a Texas DL (non-CDL?) you must be a residnet for at least 30 days (you can keep your current license until it expires when you move there, but that's not helping here). I'm assuming that driving schools get some kind of exemption to the residency requirement as many have you pass your written in the first week you are there (perhaps you are considered some kind of sponsored employee).
If I have to deliver pizza for a month until I get my first electric bill (if I have one)?

 

Best place I can find for this. Looking for a bank in Big Lake region and the nationals just dry up south of I20. Since I don't know where I'll start or end up, I was initially was looking for someone ideally with precense in Permian; SE NM; Denver; Ft Collins, CO; and Chicago (so I can easily transfer to the other half staying up there for now). Looks like a national is out. Wells Fargo and Bank of America aren't bad, but south of Midland are kaput. Do you just weld a fire-safe to your car or bury it out back next to a "Skunk Nest, do not disturb" sign? Security State Bank covers a 2 state wide swath from Canada to Mexico, but no NM, CO, or IL but might be at least a local choice for me. Do I need a branch within 50 miles? Maybe not. I may have to just open something local and do some Split Direct Deposit stuff, if offered.

My current Bank, BMO Harris, has ATMs in the Speedway chain of stations up here so when I expedite in the surrounding states I always have a good chance to find either a branch or at least an ATM. Is there anyone in Permian area with at least a good ATM coverage? Is there a group that a bunch of the local name banks belong to (like Tejas, Eden State Bank and Big Lake Bank all are under the umbrella of something with a name like West Texas Bank Group). I wouldn't be adverse to Credit Unions either.

 

Don't need a local bank, just have the company you work for do direct deposit to your bank account, and then use your debit card for what you need. Walmarts give cash advances with purchases.

 

I had a few nabors job postings on my phone and today noticed they were coming up "no longer available". It may only be that they were expiring due to the new year (all id's started with "14". The positions showed on a list of results, but when trying to pull up the details, it displays the no longer available message. wait a couple of days and see if they show up. What's the word at the yards?
I checked C&J Energy and nothing? was showing up there. The tax maneuver they're pulling leaves me confused (CJE pays nabors, is suppossed to manage what they bought, but Nabors still owns 53?% It has some name that sounds like "Reverse Morris Trust"). Are vacuum trucks considered part of the frac operations or is it only onsite type well equipment that changed hands?

 

What she said. From what I understand the merger is not yet a done deal ..... something about C&J stock holders trying to get a more favorable deal. The Midland yard is hiring. Most of our kill trucks and a few of our vac trucks are sold out on daily gigs with pulling units so we need more vac drivers to cover the other stuff.

A lower court last month put on ice C&J’s merger with a Nabors unit, finding C&J’s board didn’t adequately shop the company. The situation was unusual in part because C&J was the nominal buyer: Its board and management would keep control, though the new entity is to be incorporated in Nabors’s home of Bermuda and 53% controlled by Nabors itself. The lower-court judge ordered C&J to run a 30-day auction before it could close the Nabors deal. “It is undisputed that a deal with Nabors made strategic business sense and offered substantial benefits for C&J’s stockholders,” the higher court wrote.
