The failure rate for new drivers is over 90%. We highly recommend against leasing for new drivers. There is more to this than what you learn in training. Good luck

 

That's funny cause just 2 years ago down in rock wall TransAM's staff (bubba j, the "ex Federal cop", and the other idiot) told quite a few of us that they "didn't have enough company trucks" so after a few days at the hotel they brought us back and told us "since we don't have enough company trucks for y'all then your choice is simple...sign a lease or go home" to bad we were stupid enough to sign a lease. At first it was good. Take home was 1500+/week then my fleet manger quit with a few others and my miles went to ####. I stayed for 2 more months and finally walked.

That being said. If you insist you go to the Olathe terminal for orientation and truck assignment then you won't have those issues. TransAM is an ok starter company IF you are on the company side. But I'll never work for a company that caps pay as low as they do again. 35cpm after years of driving for them is a bit ridiculous when that's lower then the average starting pay these days.

But who knows they may have changed a little since I was there.

 

Also with a 90% failure rate you'd think they would be smart enough to change the program around so people can be more successful and stay longer... Also they need to get better trucks.

 

They lease for the tax write offs. Saves them a lot of money. Olathe pressures the lease also. Your story is unique. I train here and none of my students told me that but they have told me other things

Yeah I wasn't about to train just to pay for my truck. A buddy of mine trained there a while just to stick it out. Did his lease and left just to get the check.

As for tall Mike. A lease isn't a good Idea for anyone especially rookies. But if your financial situation forces you down the lease route. Look into companies like JCT that have a capital lease and buy out is only $1. Those types of leases are like "owner finance" you pay them not the bank. Leases like TransAM, prime, CR England, exc are a different type of lease. You're "renting" the truck, taking on full responsibility for it and at the end if you choose to purchase the truck you're gonna have a balloon payment that you will either need to finance on your own or drive for another year or 2 to pay off.

As a company driver with only 2yrs OTR I made 50k this year. My base pay is 41cpm and I average 44-48cpm. If you budget right and live within your means you can buy your own truck in cash your first year or 2 driving.

 

Anybody been to the wally world in Pottsville, pa lately? Seems like it was a 5 hr ordeal the last time I was there. Gotten any better?

 

Hey JD though I hate to say this Pete is correct about Prime liking to put new drivers in lightweights as I was looking at them as well. If you do read through all the post for Prime you will find a pic of the inside of one of those lightweights. They actually remind me of extended cab pickup trucks as the bunk is literaly behind the seat.
